Ok guys, i'm new here obviously. :D I have some questions about these DSM's you have here. I was looking for a new daily driver and came across a few AWD turbo talons. a 1st gen 2nd gen and a 3rd gen...I really only like the 1st and 2nd gen (mostly the 1gen). The 1st gen has around 120k miles and it's stock. I was wondering if these cars would make good daily drivers to commute to school monday through friday and be reliable for daily driving? I'm not really concerned about gas mileage or modifications, just dependability and maintenace. Would any of you reccomend these cars as a daily driver? If so, what should I look for when I go test drive these cars? I think that's all of my questions for now...Thanks!

Well the 3g couldn't have been turbo or AWD. They only came in FWD, 4 or 6 bangers.

Honestly if you want a reliable daily driver, a DSM isn't the right choice. If you baby it everywhere, it'll last a while. But it still isnt quite as reliable as many other cars.

Until I burnt up the stock clutch (2 many AWD launches) on my 1G it was a good daily driver, of coarse it's still stock except the k&n.

I drove it for 3 months every day with a OBDI and had no problams. (until I learned how to AWD launch :) lesson well learned.)

My 1g has been a daily driver for 3 years now and i drive to school 60 miles every day mon-fri. Only once has it left me stranded cuz the alternator died on me. I would consider my 1g stock reliable.

I'm not to worried about the cost of maintence (all cars require, some more than others). I just would like to keep spending to fix stuff to a minimum(so I can spend it all on my beast). As for a daily driver, I want something sporty, and that can handle cold winters and hot summers. AWD turbo is a big plus on my list. After checking out a bunch of other cars, these DSMs seem to be the #1 on my list so far. If I were to own one, I would baby it, do all maintence work myself. I really am interested in learning these cars, I've always had a little love for the diamond star motors now help me try and expand it a little :D.

I found a 1990 AWD talon for $2,750 120k miles, if I were to go check it out/test drive it, what are some things I should test on it and look for in the engine etc. to see if any major problems. Also I would try and get the best history of the car I could.

I am a car enthusiast, I would take care of any car that is in my possession to the best of my knowlege. I am a fan of these DSMs and it would be great to have one as a daily driver. Thanks for all the replies thus far!

Speed if i were you I would test drive it and do a compression check @ the sametime.

I bought my DSM for $2000 they were asking for $2500.

I spent over$1000 so far on maintence & mods.

K&N, Raxles, Magnacore wires, NGK's, ACT 2600, ACT flywheel, Cluth fork, Greddy turbo timer, Boost guage, odds and ends.
