I sold my 95 GST this past summer and really regret it. So i now have 5K for another DSM. In my area i found 1 91 Galant VR4 bone stock with all maint done with 148K on it. Also found a 98 Talon Tsi AWD 5 spd also bone stock with most maint items completed, this one has 150K on it. Now thats my tough choice to make because, for one there both AWD which is what i want this time around. They are both stock. Both have had timing belt replaced along with rest of main maint. items. Both have simular milage. I personally like the look of the 2Gb talons alot. The VR4 is almost 15 years old now whereas the talon is 7 going on 8 which just seems like it would be a safer bet. There both 75 miles away from my home. I do have a 1 1/2 year old daughter that i need to take around but she loved the Eclipse and the talon is the same size so theres not a big fitment problem there. I know one is a 6 bolt and one is a 7 but i could really care less sense if the 7 bolt was gonna walk i think it would have already. I DO plan to mod either one to its full extent as i did with my GST stuff like 50 trim, 660's, fmic, harpipes, 3" turboback ect i think everyone knows the drill. Its just a matter of having i guess style doing it or being a 14 year old sleeper. I just need some help on which to get sense im in a deadlock. Im leaning twords the Talon but the more i think about it a GVR4 is really a nice car to have being 4 doors, 4G63, sleeper effect ect :confused: . Any feedback would be great

I always thought a gvr4 would be fun, but I know if it were between the two... I probably couldn't pass up the 2gb awd talon opportunity. I'd just go the stroker route and make it a monster. Talon-style, gvr4-sleeper. Good luck! :)
Hard to say really, but I think that GVR-4 would definately be different and a whole lot more unique. Gotta love the 2Gb cars though too!

The 6 bolt might take a bit more of a beating stock, but that 2g is MUCH newer and probably a bit healthier.

almost forgot to add the prices of each
VR4 = $4500 firm
2Gb = $5000 obo

heres a few pics of the cars....

If it were me, I'd go with the Talon. It just looks like a fast sports car, while the Galant looks like an aging economy car. The Galant comes with a 3 bolt rear end, and the wheels have only 4 lugs. You'd have to do some major conversions to bring it up to the same level as the Talon. That's a good price for a 98 AWD Talon.
Hands down, the Talon. Its newer body style is sexy, hence me doing the body conversion. The talon looks mint from the pics you posted. It looks like a true sports car as compared to the VR4. From the pics of the Talon it also looks like it was already dropped 1". The talon already has the 4 bolt rear, comes with 17" rims already from the factory and handles beautifully. It looks like its up to date as the body lines are more towards todays style of cars. And you got to think that 91 parts are really worn as compared to 98 parts. Get the Talon. Plus 5K obo means you could probably get it downor at least close to $4500.
well found out the guy with the talon has coil overs on it with stock struts that are blown out so all that needs replacing, its got a crack in the valve cover so it leaks oil, and needs new tires. It has volt gauge, boost gauge and A/F but none of them are hooked up, hes also venting his EBAY BOV... go figure lol. So what i want to do is subtract the cost of struts and springs, and tires from his asking price and see if he will do it. so about $300 for a cheap set of maybe OEM springs and some tokico struts or somthing to get through the winter, and $450 for 4 new tires. So ill tell him knock $750 off the price and he has a deal if all is well other than that.Makes the cars final price $4250. Anyone disagree with that?
Sounds like a pretty good price. I think I'd slap him down another $1k for venting though. :D

I doubt you get the guy to lower his price down so low being that someone else that see the car and don't know any better would be willing to buy it for more. The car looks real good. From the looks of the pics it has no body damage. That alone will sell. You could try it and maybe he'll bite but I think closer to $4500 is more of what he might expect to get from it since he did put OBO in the price.
if you take the convenience out of the equation what is more important to you- style or the sleeper effect?

if you still can't decide call the vr4 guy and offer him 3500 THAT DAY. (cash in hand.) if he doesnt go for it offer the talon guy a price that would make you feel good- 4000?

if one of them goes for it- it was meant to be... ;)
i would go for the talon, however with that milage on it I wouldn't pay a cent over 4 grand, sweet looking car though for sure, i still wish i had my 97 awd talon
Well talked to the owner of the talon again and explained all the money id have to put into it right away. He wont take anything less than $4400 for the car. so again then ill first need new springs and struts, and new tires, then hook up all the gauges and take off the ricer bov and make my own recirculation pipe for another BOV. The Galant guy says he wants to wait til i see the car before i try to bargin because its in mint condition, so basically maybe $100 off which would be the exact same at $4400 lol.

So im still thrown by this decision because the galant has all the reciepts for work done, all work has been done by the owner not a mechanic like the talon. The galant has all new tires, timing belt, water pump, turbo, ect. Whereas the talon guy doesnt know the last time he changed the oil, doesnt know what a timing belt is (thought he had a timing chain!!LOL) Its just the talon looks so good but i guess looks arent everything. The Talon owner really does not know anything about it, just drove it, vented BOV, didnt change the timing belt or oil, doesnt know what a xfer case is or anything else, so it obviously was not taken care of as it should have been besides washings and waxings obviously. Another strange thing the Talon owner said was that he doesnt want to accept a deposit and let me pick it up later in the week with the rest of the money in case somthing happens to the car!?? but he wouldnt tell me what he ment, he was like "i dont know maybe ill get in an accedent or somthing..... who knows, you know what im sayin" all suspicious like that? more like theres problems hes not telling me and is gonna like warm the car up good before i get there for the test drive and hide the problems or somthing? Its really starting to look like the VR4 is a good choice on my part. BTW why is it that i cant find any aftermarket parts for galant? like the IC pipe from the turbo to intercooler goes to the drivers side not the pass side like the regular 1G and 2G. Where can i some hard pipes for the stock galant intercooler? or will i have to just buy a front mount? other than the piping is everything else the same as the 1G as far as part fitment? what about exhaust ect? is there any like specialty website for GVR4 parts or anything? if not where can i get a FMIC with piping for it?

Well when i go to test drive the talon what should i look for in terms of the awd stuff (xfer case, rear ect) sense i had a GST i dont know what to look for in terms of an AWD car. I remember reading somthing a while ago about jacking up just the rear end and turning the tires or somthing? idk any help is greatly appreciated
This shouldn't be a hard choice...the 98 talon alll the wayyyyy.

That car looks like it was well taken care of, plus it's nicer than that aweful looking vr4.

I love how you said your 1 1/2 year old daughter loves the 95 gst :eek: ...hahaha
I never knew a baby loves the loudness and vibrations of a turbo back exhaust...And I bet you she loves to get thrown back in the car seat when the 50 trim spools up :D

lol honestly im dead serious on that! She always either got excited when i started the car or fell asleep from the vibration lol. She LOVED when i hit boost she would laugh and yell and go PSHHHHH when i hit the top of the gears!! That may be hard to belive because she did that when she was 1 year old but i swear on my life, heck i have a couple videos of her in the back laughing her but off when i took a sharp turn and hit boost and just lit em up in 2nd LOL. Well i just setup a test drive on thursday morning with the Talon owner so i should be all set with that then if everything is mechanically sound. Any tips with the AWD thing to make sure everything works right?

On a side note i just got done watching a bunch of DSM videos and man i cant wait to get another one even if i have to spend another 2-3K on mods and maintenance :p
Im not sure on how to check the drivetrain....but if everything is okay you'll never look back to a gst ever again...I can assure you that... ;)

I hope everything turns out well for you and your baby
just drive the talon see how it feels. if anything is wrong with the rear diff or transcase ull know by driving it. thats something that usually is ok. id be more concerned with how well the clutch engages or if there is grinding going into gear. BUT id buy that talon if i were u thats not a bad deal. I got Ground Control coilovers and adjustable shocks for it. IF u want them ill sell them to u for 350shipped. They came off my 97gsx.
well i just got a picture of the engine bay and it looks kinda suspecious... Theres rust on the strut towers and looks like camber plates and one of the bolts for the strut is missing and the other center nut for the strut is missing? whats with this guy?

That link is a picture of the engine bay in super high resolution for anyone that wants to help me out and tell wtf is with the rust and suspension please feel free. Just click the link and then click download on that page. Note it is about 4MB so its no good for 56K lol.

Jacking the rear end up and spinning the wheels will tell you two things. First, it will let you know that there isn't a broken axle (which is doubtful, but could happen) and it will also tell you if the rear end has a LSD in it. If both wheels spin in the same direction it's LSD, if they spin in opposite directions it's open.

The main thing to check for is a leaky transfer case and when you're driving it around, make sure you don't hear any thumping sounds coming from the bottom of the car. That could point to a problematic driveline. Other than that, just use your common sense. Good luck with either decision.
