I just bought a 91 tsi awd and it's a P.O.S. it's been running hot lately but the temp gauge reads fine. I drove it for about 2 miles got home looked under the hood smoke was coming from near the turbo and there was oil on top of the valve cover. Any idea what's causing this. Thanks.

Hi, I had the same problem with my car, it was the oil feed line going into the valve cover...There was a small leak....I jb welded it and no more problem...esay fix....your problem sounds the same....
the oil on the top of the valve cover could be from the oil cap. If the gasket is worn out it leaks oil through there. You can go to autozone and buy just the gasket you dont need a new oil cap. there is a thread around that tells you the part number.
It's not the oil cap or the line thanks for the help though guys.
I had the same thing. I wiped it off a while ago and it hasnt came back..I have no clue what it was. At 1st i was afraid it was a valve seal, but it might have came through the oil cap or something...
Did you check to make sure the dipstick was steated properly?
if your valve cover is cracked or not torqued down tight enough, oil will come out through the crack or the loose bolts. when i replaced my vc gasket, i didnt tighten down some bolts all the way and i ended up replacing the oil cap twice before i thought to check the v/c itself
