How to build a 10-secondish 1G on $10K

1626 Views 25 Replies 14 Participants Last post by  rancid1g
My friend has just gotten around $10k and wants to build a 10-secondish 1G DSM. I'm talking all out race/track car. no interior, shitty paint, cosmetics don't matter, build for 1/4 mile only,

what and how should we spend the money???
keep in mind that he stills needs the car, but we don't even care if motor is blown or if the cometics are good, as long as it is a turbo awd.

Thanks for the input.

your gonna need alot more booty to make a dsm do 10's. especially if you dont have the car yet. or at least do 10's and be able to keep the car running.
Actualy it can be done for half of that if you can do the work your self.
Here is the blue print.

Dont let people discourage you.
You can build one hell of a fast car from these platforms with not alot of money if is going to be a track only car.
Good luck and have fun.
that is so sweet, running 10's on a 14b. Kinda makes me think i don't need a new turbo to run my goal of low 12's.

What is a Bullet style liquid to air intercooler? this thing looks like a get option instead of getting a front mount. How does this thing work?

almost exactly what it sounds like, its an intercooler where the intercooler is encased in a shell that contains water, and you use a remote water tank loaded with ice to circulate cold water into that case ..... allowing you to use 40* water instead of 90* air (or what ever the temp is outside that day)
Would this be practical for a daily driver? i am very interested in not having to fit in a front mount.
no, the ice in teh tank would have to be refilled at least twice a day ... every day
Man i never thought that a 14b could push a dsm into the 10's, maybe i won't swap out the 14b after all.Thas hardcore racing at it'z best i tip my hat to those guys keep up the good work.
But realize how much weight reduction they've done. That car is stripped on the inside. For a track only car that's great, but for a DD, it's totally impractical. Also, they are REALLY pushing the limits on that turbo, and it likely won't last much longer.

Thats what the guy who made this post is looking for, a track only car.
As for the turbo not lasting much longer. Well we have been hearing that for a year or so now. :)

its one of those things that could go either way .... my brothers 14b lasted 10 minutes at 20 odd psi when the bost controller failed

id say a 16g would be faster and less likely to fail anyways .... and its not like a used 16g is gonna add that much to the total budget anyways

You will have to have faith in the fact that we know a 16g will be faster. ;)
There is a 16g sitting ready to go on the car when the 14b thing is done.

well in the name of making sure your car is as fast as possible, im making a 14b voodoo doll ... im driving railroad spikes thru this 14b turbo i have laying around :p

Thats ok there is a back up 14b on the bench incase its needed. :p
hybrid connection has about a dozen junk 14b's laying around ... i can make more voodoo turbos if need be
The 16g will be going on soon.
That's SWEEET! Many props to you guys, many! I would like to get into the low-mid 12's w/my set up. A lot of my money is going on maintenance stuff things that are not really for speed. The last performance mod I made was the profec 2. Again, congrats.
Dont want to turn this guys thread into a topic about the laser but it is amazing what Joe has done with this car. It just takes alot of time and patience. Its all about the power to weight ratio.
The car has really come along way since that first drive in the Goodwill parking lot.
I`ll never forget that day.
Thanks so much. guys I appreciate it so much.

Now that's just awesome. Says a lot to the ppl with hopes on building a car instead of just flaming about you need this that and you aint got none.

Hope to see another project write up, goodluck :)
