If you still haven't found a solution, you might want to check your thermostat. My old Talon TSI had same symptoms and it was the thermostat staying open so running constantly rich.
idle surge and check engine light only at running temp
i bought a 92 galant ls with the sohc 4g63 and the 4 matic transmission. it had around 118k miles and I've put about 1.8k miles on it and it recently started idle surging and the check engine light only comes on once it's at running temperature, any help would be great, thanks in advance.
edit: i replaced the thermostat and i still have the issue, also it only happens sometimes and not all the time

thanks I'll make sure to check it out, would your check engine light turn off if you hit a bump immediately as it turned on?you might want to check your thermostat.
