I might buy a cheap 1992 Eagle Talon AWD TSI auto in the next couple of days and need some advice. My plans are making a CHEAP toy. With an intake, full exhaust, boost turned up to 15psi what kind of horsepower are we talking about? From what I have read that is about all you can do with stock pump/injectors and fuel cut, right? Also anyone with similar mods what are you running in the 1/4 (60ft and trap speed)? With that stuff done does it need to be tuned?

Now about the fuel cut (or whatever it is called). Is there any easy way around this? I really wouldn't mind running 20+ pounds of boost till the car stopped. I'm assuming that would definately need fuel pump/injectors and tune.

Any help will be appreciated as I am open to all ideas. This is only a toy not my daily driver. And yes i have searched so I know most the basics such as gauges, airbox mod and stuff like that. Oh yea, the cheaper the better. Thanks.

keep searching
I run a 15.0 1/4 mile according to my G-Tech. I have a 2G mas, 550cc injectors, 3" catback exhaust, and 17 psi of boost leveling off to 15 psi by redline. This is with two passengers and at about 6,200 ft., so YMMV. Couldn't tell you the HP, never dyno'd it.

These here are your first two misconceptions. DSM's never end up being cheap. Just like the saying goes, "Cheap, Reliable, Fast, - Pick Two".
Well i don't know how much you know about these cars or turbo cars in general but an intake will not really do much for you as it's a bit different than on a NA car. I would like to know how much you want to spend after you buy the car. That will help us help you.
i dynoed at 189.9 hp and 202 torque at the wheels with only an intake and SAFC-II
this is front wheel drive though...

Nonsense, some super import tuner mag dyno'd an 18WHP gain from an intake.

To answer your question, with those three mods you probably won't run much better then stock. The auto is equipped with a 13g turbo which isn't much capable of anything.

I'd say, if you're looking for a cheap toy. Upgrade to the 14b, which shouldn't cost you much, I did on my previous car for ~$150. Turbo-back exhaust, boost controller, intake, and some free mods. These should get your car moving decently enough to satisfy you.
Well I don't care what intake you put on a 1G if you are still using the 1G maf you won't get shit. Oh and we are talking about cai intakes not intake manifolds just so we are on the same page.
Okay how bout this. Ideally I would like it to be a mid 13sec 1/4mi car. Could I go up to a 16g turbo/fp/injectors to produce good power and times. What all is involved to go to a bigger turbo setup? Also do you need a fuel management device or can you just get it tuned by a shop to deal with the fuel cut problems? I can pick up the car for a grand and put up to 2 grand into it but I have to make a decision by Sunday night. Thanks again.
for mid 13's you could do it on a stock turbo and some fuel upgrades, exhaust and a boost controller

2k will get you into the 13's. A 14b or Small16g would probably be crucial though. Exhaust, boost controller, at least some 450cc injectors. Those should be your basic mods.

Just so we are on the same page, my 18whp comment was a joke. It was true in the mag, but silly. You will net some gain from an intake, or cai. Just not a crazy amount. Since the air would be traveling through a straight hard pipe, and not through the stock rubber accordian it will provide more air to the turbo. More air to the turbo = better running.
