SBR Cast Manifold or EVO III Manifold??

1307 Views 16 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Frankie Figs
I'm looking into getting a new exhaust manifold. I would like to get a cast manifold because they hold in heat better than stainless and are cheaper :) Which manifold would you get and why? In case you dont feel like looking it up the Slowboy manifold is $300 and the EVO III is $222 from Forced Performance. Also, would it be worth the money to get it ported ($50 from SBR & $95 from FP)?

Thanks,
Frankie

What type of turbo, HP goals, do you ever plan on going external WG?

Let us know these answers, we will try to give you the best option.

If you prefer these two vendors, both also carry the SBR manifold!

I have an EVO 3 16G and I will probably go external gate sometime on the near future. When I do I had planned on using a Tial 40mm cause the Tial 38mm can stick when used with leaded fuel. As for HP goals, I'm not too sure. I will be going with a bigger turbo and maybe a stroker after I'm done playing with the 16G, so I want a manifold that I wont have to upgrade to make 450-500 AWHP.
the SBR cast is thick and has an ultra thick flange to bring larger turbos out a tad from the engine. if u go say to like a 60-1 u wont be able to fit that turbo with a evo manifold. If u do an intermediate turbo like a 20g u can fit it in without bending the water pipe. THe SBR also doesnt need to be ported it has larger runners than the evo manifold for optimum flow. also the new version comes already pretapped for an egt if u so choose to run one also has a flange for an external wastegate if u decide to run one all u have to do is drill the manifold no welding necessary
I wish mine came with an EGT probe tap, I think thats an extra feature
look at the new offering they have, they all come pretapped and plugged
mine came pretapped, and plugged, i like the sbr alot, i have no expererience with the evo3 though. i do think sbr could of done a better port job though, but its all good.
I got robbed then, lol

I wonder how i missed out on that
I think Im gonna get the SBR when I get the extra cash. Thanks for the help guys :)

If you bought your manifold recently, snap a picture... if no plug/ tap... I will give you a couple bucks store credit towards your next purchase!

Nice! Will do!
Also to note about the 38mm wastegate, it's the valve inside that is the problem running leaded fuel. They have a "race" valve that you can request from us or any other tial vendor and it is designed to work with race gas as well. Just my $.02

Does it cost more for the race valve?
If you buy the wastegate with the racing valve it does not cost extra, but if you were to buy the regular gate and then upgrade it would be the cost of the valve which is in the mid $25-30 range.
