what is the widest tire i can go with on 18' rims without havin the tire stick out?
i was thinkin 235?40/18 but maybe some of you guys tried wider and it was still fine. I just want as much traction as i can get.
OK, so that means your rims are about 203mm wide. The wheel and tire FAQ for DSMs says this:
"For maximum performance, I've uncovered two rules of thumb in the course of research: 1) the tread width and wheel width should be about the same, and 2) in no case should the wheel width be less than 70% of the tread width."
So, for 203mm rims, that works out to a tire that's no wider than 290mm, so it looks like you're OK. But for "maximum performance" as he puts it, try to stay as close to 203mm as you can (205 or 215, but 225 or 235 should work alright too).
