Transfer Case Help.

First of all I have a 95 auto AWD and I removed the 5 bolts the hold the transfer case onto the tranny, well it’s stuck still. I have searched and found people say pry it with a screw driver, well I can’t fit a screw driver into the gap. So I want to pry the transfer case from the tranny using a small crow bar, my question is this safe to do? I can’t damage the transfer case right from the pressure of the bar right? Am not trying something else first?

Thanks

there is a snap ring that holds the transfer case to the tranny. you have to pop off the x-fer case in the same way you would pop out an axle. stick the pry bar inbetween and give it a good hit and it should pop right off.
p.s. dont sit directly under the x-fer case, you dont want it to drop on your face ;)

There's your answer, autos have 6 bolts. ;)
They do? I have never heard this, and where is the 6th bolt then?

Thanks

Unless the automatic is completly different from the manual (which I doubt) there is no snap ring and there are only 5 bolts. I don't remember how I pulled mine out when I did it, but I don't remember having much difficulty with it. As long as you're careful to not apply too much pressure to the transmission housing it should be okay to use it as your pry point. If you have the car up high enough for you to lay underneath the t-case, you could put two of the longer bolts in just a few threads and then muscle it out. I hope that helps. Post up if you're still having problems, and good luck bro.
I usually just use the tail end for leverage. I just wiggle left and right and it pops right off.
