turbo gauge acting up!

568 Views 7 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Chicago_DSM
lately i have paying attention to my gauge, and what i notice is a strang things, when i start accelerating the turbo gauge goes up till i hit 3k rpm, and the needle drops although way down. and this happen on every gear. performance wise you feel the drop in performance if i drive on streets, but on freeway i don't really feel that difference. i have added a greddy blow off valve type rs, exhause, intake, 10.5 wires and the free mods. i did have a broken exhaust manifold stud which i could not take out, so a shop recommended to use some glue that is made to hold up such heat. and i have changed the exhaust manifold gasket.
sorry for the long post, but i'm just wondering if the problem is with my gauge mostly or it is related to the engine.

What are you using for a boost controller? I didn't see anything listed.
i'm not using a boost controller
by the way, if you are looking at the stock boost gauge, (I really hope your not) don't trust anything you see, most are very innacurrate, I would install an aftermarket boost gauge (if you haven't already) and put on a boost controller, have you removed or modified anything?
Doesn't sound like a problem with the boost gauge if you are feeling the difference in your performance. Time for a boost leak test for starters.
i'm very much stock when it comes to gages and boost controller. i did buy a manual boost conroller but i have not install it, i'm waiting till i buy the boost gauge. but i do feel a performance difference like i said.

*smacks hand on forehead and shakes head*

The stock boost gauge in the gauge cluster will not show you crap...Although you should trust your instincts, don't decide the car is not boosting right just b/c of how it feels when you stomp on it and what the inaccurate gauge is showing

One of the 1st mod's any turbo dsm'er gets is an aftermarket boost gauge...realize that? Without it, you will never really know how much your car is boosting

Get an aftermarket boost gauge and mbc and then tell us what the car reads....Otherwise, do a search and find out there are 50,000 other threads on here about the sane topic
