I know that this probably sounds dumb, but what exactly are people referring to when they say 'test pipe' or 'down pipe'?

It is probably something simple, but I have never heard anyone use that term before.

a test pipe is a strait through pipe that you put in place of your cat and a down pipe is the pipe that runs from your header to your cat or testpipe.

the test pipe runs from the "downpipe" to the rest of the cat-back, not header. it goes header, downpipe, cat "or test pipe" then the rest of the cat-back. its just less restrictive, and makes your car smell like ass.
