Which One Dejontool or Slowboy Racing?

1692 Views 24 Replies 16 Participants Last post by  glenneclipsegsx
If you had to pick an intercooler would you get the Big "Race" FMIC Kit from Dejon Tool $899 or the 2G Front Mount Intercooler Kit from Slowboy racing $879? I have a 97 TSI AWD w/ 16g.

Both are suppose to be good vendors I was just wondering what people opinions were. I saw a couple of old threads on them and wanted to see if there were any new comments or suggestions. Plus what are the Benefits/Disadvantages of having the blow thur intake? Thanks.

SBR has some of the shortest piping youll see in an intercooler. Plus its massive. Its considered the highest flowing FMIC for 2g dsms.

I went with slowboy.
This is not the best question since it's difficult to have someone who has tried both. I have the Dejon kit so I can give you an idea.

Pros:
1. Dave's shipping is super quick. I ordered on a Friday and the FMIC "kit" was right at my doorstep the following Tuesday with my specified BOV flange and the color I requested for my IC pipes.

2. FMIC and pipes were well packaged. No bent fins or stuff like that you hear from other vendors sometimes from shipping.

3. All accessories, mounting tabs etc are provided.

4. Direct fit. No surprises.

5. Since I have the original extrude tube core, it has proved very resilient. Very sturdy. Looks still like new 3 years after purchase.

6. Works great. I could make pull after pull during the summer heat and the FMIC outlet remains cold.

7. Short routed piping.

8. I loved the J-pipe since it allowed me to retain the factory fan. Most kits have an odd looking j-pipe that requires/d a slimline unit.

Cons:

1. UICP flange at the throttle body leaves alot to be desired. It's very thin and has a likelihood of warping after time. I swapped mine for an AGP piece.

2. No instructions are provided with the "kit." However, if you are installing one on your car, I'm hoping you can figure out what goes where.

3. You will need to hack your bumper support or remove it entirely at least on 1Gs. I left mine off. It's a good 30lb+ savings. YMMV. ;)

4. Rubber couplers. They work just as fine as Silicone couplers but they are just not "cool." :)

**To sum, it up. It's a good kit and I would buy another one again. ;)**

Thanks for the replies. I understand that it is hard to ask people considering the fact that no one probably has had both. With that said then how does someone guage which IC to purchase? I have a budget up to $1100.
So far it is 1up anyone else have any suggestions?
slowboy 2g kit all the way.... I had the Greddy, then I upgraded to the Slowboy on my 1995 Talon. And it is very massive, plus the piping is awesome... its well worth every penny.
Well just from the threads that I've read about SBR's customer service and shipping, I'd advise against it... just look around with the search for SBR or any company your considering and you should find some useful information.

I was going to mention that, but there's a solution...

The SBR Fmic is not an SBR original kit...It's a Kinetic Fmic 2g kit, so if you just want to get the SBR/Kinetic fmic but with better customer support and shipping, go get it at EXTREMEPSI.COM...Free shipping also and usually very good shipping and customer service

This is not a diss towards SBR, I have had no personal experience with them, but others have a lot of negativity towards their CS/S&H so I am just giving you another route--

BTW: Spooling95DSM has the SBR 2g Kit and the thing is massive! He hacked his bumper for it, but it is super intimidating and people are always asking him what kind of i/c it is....It looks amazing, go check him out for pics
I have the hahn racecraft fmic. its a bit more expensive, but you keep your fogs. all you need to do is cut a little bit off of the support and bumper. comes with instructions. was in foam when shipped, its custom made. and i have yet to heak soak it on my b16g. i would do 5 pulls in a row. and i could still go and grab the intake side. plus you get to keep the factory ic hook up points so if you have an uicp then you dont have to get rid of that.

Please to not talk about what you do not understand, not a dis, just hate people spreading bad information when they do not know what they are talking about.

It IS an SBR kit, Kinetic was a company formed just to do all of our fabrication work three years ago before SBR had 23 employees and the means to do our own. The kit was originally built, and designed right here at SBR... We stock 20-30 units, and typically turn around in 2-3 days with the exception of waiting on silicone, etc... Extreme PSI stocks one unit of each, if you think we have trouble keeping up... YIKES!

I spend a week or two a year in Surrey BC at Kinetic helping design and develop new parts, I will actually be there at the beginning of next week. If your in the area, stop into Kinetic and say hi! Kinetic has grown into a nice little business along the way as well, for which I am glad!

just for the record i had a dejontool UICP, and it didn't fit at all. i had to hack out about a 1" section in the middle of the pipe to make it work. i can't even imagine what a nightmare a fmic from them would be like.

Thanks for the TRUTH :)
I have your 1G FMIC (not installed yet :( )

To the poster, the 1G FMIC is a high quality unit, pipe and couplings are top notch. I can't speak about the Dejon but they seem to have a good rep

We as fellow DSM'rs know the importance of quality customer service and fast reliable shipping, Like mike said This is Our design, no one elses. and yes sometimes we do run out of silicone, If we had the means to make our own silicone couplers and didn't have to wait on outside vendors for such items we could keep these pumped out like nothing else. But unfortunately we cannot, we'll leave that part up to the silicone Profesionals. We are constantly improving the efficiency of our shipping department, always trying to better serve our customers, If someone has some helpful feedback feel free to contact us and let us know how we are doing, not all of us can search these forums for customers griping and try to help each individual's issues. But if you call in and speak with one of us, we will do everything in our power to make sure you had a pleasant shopping experience with SlowBoy Racing. Now I can only speak for myself But I try to treat each of my customers the way, I as a fellow DSM owner, would expect to be treated on the other end of the phone, with prompt replies, kindness, and courteousness. :)

Just make sure, whatever front mount you Buy, for whatever reason it may be, it's what you want, its how you want it to fit, and does what you want it to do.

Well then I want to sincerely apologize for the remarks on SBR...When I refer to the shipping and customer service gripes tho, I am not talking about the silicone couplers holding back the orders; I am referring to the numerous vendor complaint threads that hold a grudge on you guys...

I, however, have no reason to diss you guys considering I have never dealt with your company for a product; so, I will promise not to spread other people's judgements as my own/

Also, I was aware that the Kinetic's kit and SBR's kit is the same, and that Kinetic makes them for you guys, I just was not aware that they started out based on fabricating for your company...I was just informed incorrectly, so i apologize once again:

I stand by SBR/Kinetic FMIC still though, I think it is a huge, powerful core, and the design with the engine-facing endtanks is very helpful for fitment issue's and sweet looks

Thank you for this post.

As for customer gripes and shipping delays there are many reasons for that. Some we can control, others we cannot. Like anyone, we are not perfect. However we come to work everyday, and put forth 100% effort. If at the end of the day we have not made everyone happy, we appologize. We give 100% whether the order is $30.00 worth of gaskets, or an $8000.00 motor build.

Keep in mind, the 10-20 gripes we may have outstanding this year, in comparison to the over 5000 new customers... well, like I said... we try our best and we are not perfect. We will try harder, thats all we can do!

Yes, IMHO the SBR/ Kinetic kit is by far the best value for the money, and it just simply works very well!

MGH
I have the 2g slowboy race intercooler, and I can't say enough good things about it. I think it's an excellent kit for the money, with great fit, finish, durability, and will support just about any goals you have.
forget slowboy they suck with service. they sold me a 60-1 that was suppose to be a PTE and sent me their so called 60-1 instead and it lasted 1000miles and they didnt want to cover the cost to fix it for me. Ive ordered from them before and every time they send me the wrong part. they have tooo many people working there that dont know anything about certain vehicles because they dont specialize in dsms. they lack communication with each other.
ive been in the dsm game for more than 7 years and ive done probably 6 different turbo setups on my car as well as assisted in numerous other projects for friends. So dont try to post that it was my fault that i installed it wrong or it was my fault that i starved it for oil. It was that stupid turbonetics filter that u include on your turbo that caused it to be starved. it impedes oil flow. when i called and asked about that filter i got all these assurances that it would be fine when i questioned it myself. If u invoiced me for the right turbo i wouldnt have had that problem no would i.

OK im done now just had to let that out
ooo i see that mike huml is apologizing here but he himself couldnt answer my concerns when i politely wrote him a letter of concern over his email
