those of u with coolant/water temp gauges, what is your average temp at? i mean where the gauge stays once the thermostat opens. mine stays at 209-211 F . this is in 50 degree weather too. no fmic, stock radiator, %60 %40 mix and redline water wetter. even before the water wetter i was reading the same. i have reason to believe that my pos gauge is a lil off. i just wanna know your guys average temps, in what weather conditions, fmic ? any aftermarket cooling parts? and whats not a safe temp? thanks guys

180-190 deg F
Stock radiator fan
AC elimination (no condensor or fan)
28x10x3 fmic
180 deg Thermostat
20-45 deg F Weather
Personally, I prefer coolant tempt staying below 212F.

Average temp for me is 199-213F Stock Radiator replacement solid brass or whatever its made out of. No plastic end tanks. 180 thermostat. 60-80 degree weather. Stock ac condensor with stock radiator and ac fans. Fan turns on like around 211-213 and shuts off at 203F. Deceleration I notice that the temp drops to 199 and lowest 195.(letting off the gas pedal and cruising while in gear to slow down.)Hitting the gas again will slowly make it go up to the average of 206-210 while driving. No FMIC 50/50 mix.

Mine never get above 198. 70 degree weather (Phoenix), Spearco 2-216 fmic (huge) with no radiator fan. The only fan I have left is the AC Fan which I have run all the time without running the AC. (DSMlink).

Mine has been staying at 196 according to my logger. Every now and then it goes to 199, but usually cools back down to 196 later.

i just bought a 180 thermostat today and i ordered a greddy 18.5 psi radiator cap. the two should lower my temps a little. i cant imagine what my coolant temps will be in summer, 90 degree weather with an fmic

Isn't 18.5 lbs too high? I thought it was like 13lbs stock. As far as 180, that is what my car came with stock. I just bought the 2G Turbo (95-99) stock Thermostat Part number MD315301 and it says 82 degrees Celsius which converts to 179.6 Fahrenheit. I've seen many think that its 195 for 2G turbo but its 180.

no i think the stock radiator cap psi rating is 16.5 psi. and im really not sure about the thermostat. i thought stock was 190 degrees F. cause i always hear everyone talking about upgrading to a 180 t-stat. some people go 160 F t-sat but that is pushing it. i believe cause the car is barely in open loop by the when the thermostat opens or something to that extent. but can someone clear up what the stock thermostat rating is on a 2g?

I have a 195 in my 1G. I log 195-202.
Your radiator has a tstat at the bottom that turns on the fan at ~185 degrees. If radiator is hot, engine is hot. I found that my fan wouldn't start every time, bad brushes. Used fan ~$25.

I was running 205-215 until I drilled a hole in the T-STAT. If you look at the T-STAT you will see a little bleed hole with a plug in it. Take out the little plug drill a 3/16 hole in it. The results;
It takes a little bit longer for the engine to warm up. The temp stays from 195-205. I have a switch to turn on the fans. When I turn on the fans it stays at 190.
I have AC and VP Super Street FMIC.
I run Water Wetter DI water and coolant.
That is 80 degree weather.
I'll have to wait for the summer weather to really see how good this works. In the 80-100 degree weather I would be running 210-215 all the time with both fans blarrring.

i believe your talking about the jiggle valve? what would this do exactly?

also what are u guys logging your temps with? a logger or an actual gauge? i honestly believe the gauge would be alot more accurate cause its probed right into the coolant, and the logger is logging so many other things its a lil slower on reading the correct coolant temperature. just my thought

It allows to bypass more water so it takes longer to heat up. The longer it takes to heat up the cooler you can keep the pemp. I'm using a pocketlogger to monitor my temps.

Well I bought it from the factory and I don't think that they would sell another type..... Its 180 I assure you. I bought the car with all factory parts not one thing modified and very low mileage. One owner and it was an old man. Stock is 180 from the factory for ONLY 1995-1999 Eagle Talons and Mitsubishi Eclipeses.
