greetings, gentlemen and ladies. i picked up one of these, used.
i haven't installed it yet. anyone have the specs. on this thing? extreme is no longer producing these. i've searched but no luck. i'm specifically looking for flow rate and max. hp. i'm currently running a small 16g. i plan on going to an evo big 16g. any input is much appreciated. thanks in advance.

this isnt it is it?

"this massive unit uses a high-efficiency core to replace the stock unit in the fenderwell. It's over 4.5" thick for lower pressure drops and less heat soaking. Good for 16G-equipped cars, this allows the car to run without heat soaking and provides a much cooler intake charge, thereby producing more horsepower and reducing the chance of detonation."

I've heard someone once referring to it as 6" thick core, so this may not be it i dunno only one they list and it doesnt seem to have been too popular not much info on it.

yeah, that looks like the one. i 'll measure the thickness tomorrow. i left it at work, so i don't have access to it today. the only thing i really don't like about it is...the inlet and outlet are only 1.75 inches. thanks for the quick response.

I have this setup on my '95 talon with the small stage 2 16g from Extreme. Seems to be a good match and is stealthy.

Are you sure you looked at the Extreme web site. They are still advertising it on their site for $598.99

heres their product info
Large Fender-Mount Intercooler [EXM0270] $598.99
A bolt-in, stealthy replacement, this massive unit uses a high-efficiency core to replace the stock unit in the fenderwell. It's over 4.5" thick for lower pressure drops and less heat soaking. Good for 16G-equipped cars, this allows the car to run without heat soaking and provides a much cooler intake charge, thereby producing more horsepower and reducing the chance of detonation.

Anyone have one installed on their cars? I want to go with a larger fender mounted unit in the future, but I'd like to know how they perform.... I really like the whole stealthy attitude too!

i checked extreme's website a few days ago. yeah, they still produce a smic for 2g's. however, i have a 1g. i never bothered to look at the 2g catalog, which is why i couldn't find any info. still, the 2g info is very vague. i'll be doing the install in a week or so. i'll try to do a review.

We need a bigger plastic funnel. That stock POS funnel doesn't even cover over the whole stock smic. If it's removed there won't be any funneling directing air into the intercooler.

i kinda suspected that. looks like i'm gonna have to trim/ alter the existing air duct or construct an entirely new one. i'll let you guys know how it goes.

Dejon Tools sell one of those shrouds in aluminum for $40. pic one up. I would think that aluminum might help with cooling the air a tiny bit if none at all.

Dejon also sells their own upgraded SMIC. I'd be curious to know if anyone has any experience with it.
This is true. But have you looked at Dejons Dimensions. Further up in this thread it was quoted that Extremes is a full 6" thick. Dejons is 3.5" thick. I think If I had to choose, I would buy Extremes. Sure Extremes is $100 more, but also 2.5" thicker. When its my time, Iwill have to choose between FMIC or SMIC, and if I go the stealth look, I'll most likely buy Extremes. But would invest in Dejons Shroud. Now if I was to find a good FMIC for the same or lower price than the two combined guess what I would end up with....My opinion. :D

ok. finally got around to measuring the i/c. it is a solid 6 inches
thick. i can't wait to get it installed.
Hey Moneypit, after you got it in do a Parts review. Tell us how it went. Did it go in like a breeze. Does it fit perfect without modifications? Tell us also if after the install you felt it feels like a difference.
