Weisco Pistons, std. bore, with chrome rings.
I have been getting a grey or blue smoke from the exhaust. I did a test to see if it is the rings and the test seemed good. I think I either might have valve seals leaking or my turbo seals may be going. The whole engine was rebuilt about 4k miles ago. Any opinions on this? I haven't really used any oil, I do have a small leak from the oil return line.

stock compression with a cometic h/g, i think I figured around 8.3:1

edit, I only get the smoke at WOT, and I have no emissions or pvc system.

yeah head was rebuilt. Doesn't smoke when I start it. and it does after decelling to a stop. It's weird. I think i am going to pull the turbo off tonight or tommorow and see. Think it could be anything else. I was thinking it could be the rings because i never bored the block over, and the block had 60k miles on it, but the bore was well in spec when I rebuilt it.

I agree George it's weird. It would puff out some smoke when you just start it and stops, sometimes when you were driving slow (say part throttle) it will smoke a bit and when you just jab the throttle WOT it will let out a big puff of blue smoke then regular black smoke.:dunno: Honestly, that's weird since your "ring-test" shows that's probably not the problem.

yeah I do notice on the stock gauge it is kinda high like at the top of the can thing when going on the highway. but it is a stock gague.

You probably don't need to yank the turbo to check it out. Just remove the intake and check for shaft play, any oil on the inlet opening, and possibly flush out your intercooler. Another thing that may be putting some oil into the system would be a bad PCV valve.

I think the return line is kinked causing it to build pressure in the line and leak past the gasket and seals causing it to smoke, I am going to reclock the center section tonight.
edit i have no pvc system no shaft play or oil on the inlet.

I'm pretty positive after running a little 'test' that the oil line is kinked, given the volume of oil that is pumped out say at WOT, its probably backing up in the line, and blowing out the gasket and out of the seals, the turbo smells like a box of metal crayons or really burnt oil, how ever you look at it.

Ok???
Anyways, it's the turbo. The oil seal on the exhaust side was blown. Will be sending of the turbo to PTE tommorow.
Looks like what mike was seeing was the left over oil after a pull from spraying burning off. I'm just glad it wasn't the rings. Hopefully it will be covered under warrenty.
