I brought my car to mavis for them to put on my rims and new lugnuts but they impacted the lugs on and now they are stripped and i cant take them off. Any good method to use when ur lug nuts are stripped to take them off? the car is sitting in my friends shop with a lot of tools i can use. Would a numatic hammer do the trick?

and no im not a loser who doesnt know how to put on wheels i didnt wanan ride on them with my crappy alignment i had after my accident

Hmm stripped lug nuts; that can't be fun. I would say you're just going to have to try a couple different things; whatever you have available there, but be careful not to mess them up even more.

Good luck with it!

A professional car place used an impact gun to put your lugs back on:eek:. Wow, that is a big no-no. What do they think torque specs and wrenches are for. I would call them up and bitch their asses out.

That's a good idea. Call em up, tell em they stripped your lugnuts when they stupidly used an impact wrench to put them back ON, and you can't get them off now. Take it back to them and make them do whatever is necessary to get them back off and fix the problem! Worth a shot...

I had my nephew put back on my wheels once (Never again) and he stripped one of the lug nuts but still forced it on. Well I came to try to take the wheel off weeks later, and let me tell you I was not a happy camper. I put one of those big cross wrenches and put all my weight till the nut snapped. Than went to Kragen bought a new stud and a new mag. Costed me almost $10.

Discount tire company did that to me not too long ago.. I got wheels and tires put on and balanced, I drove the car to my buddies house to pull the trans and when I tried to take the wheels off, I broke 2 lug nuts/studs off.. Replacing them isnt so bad, there have been a million posts on it. Napa has lugs and studs too.

just curious what kind of welder did you use? I would get a cheap wrench and weld it on the lug and then turn it off that way, just be careful you don't weld the lug down to the stud. or if you can torch it till it turns nice and red, just before it starts to melt then slap a pipe wrench on it and spin till it pops off, or use a little butane torch just to get it nice and warm, the try the pipe wrench. (use the butane if you don't have access to acetylene.)

I didnt know you posted on here.........whats up?
I finished wiring all the gauges tonight, almost ready to startup.

Sorry for post whoring

Ive used a pipe wrench to rip the shit outta a lugnut, but depending on how the rim is, with the lug set back into it, you cant get a pipe wrench on it. You could try pounding a smaller size socket on it, try a standard instead of metric maybe.

Or take it back to the pisscutters who stripped it for you.

Good luck.

while im here anyone know any good lug nuts to use that arent easy to strip and arent made of some cheap metal. ill try and take it off on friday

If you don't want to damage the wheel, drill or grind the head of the stud off on the other side of the hub, then pop the stud with the nut out of the hub using a punch and a hammer.

I'm assuming you don't have the stock wheels/lugs any more. If you have aftermarket wheels, I would suggest the McGard Spline Drive lug nuts. I've had a set on my VW, my wife's Lancer, and my Elcipse and I've never had any problems with them. You might want to order a spare lug key when you order the nuts., Just in case.

Chrome - SplineDrive (Cone Seat)
Contains wheel locks, key, splinedrive nuts, installation tool, chrome valve stems, storage pouch 65557(7)(62)
65457(6)(62)

Black - SplineDrive (Cone Seat)
Contains wheel locks, key, splinedrive nuts, installation tool, chrome valve stems, storage pouch 65557BK(7)(62)
65457BK(6)(62)

I had a similar problem with mine because I had lost the key for the locking nuts and there was one on each rim. So we had to weld a nut onto the end of the nut and dothis about 8 times per nut let it cool crank it off with a breaker bar and repeat the process until it came loose. Sucked but it did work

well let me update you guys on what happen so i had to take the whole wheel assembly out to change my clutch. We used a numatic hammer to hammer the lug nuts out took the guy 3 hours to do it and now my rim in the center it totaly fuxored lol looks liek it got shot at. But they came off finally. Now if i only take my turbo out and take my broken stuf out of the retun line plug

After the lug was stripped, did you try and keep turning it to see if it would break off? When Mine stripped I just kept turning it till the stud broke off. Then fixing the wheel studs is much easier.
