I actually have a few pics of these things taken and uploaded online. I think I even did a review a while back. They are better than stock, but dont expect to be blown away, they definately arent HID's or anything. The amount of actual lumens produced by them are near stock, just the hue is more of that of a 4100k HID, rather than a yellowed light.
As for light bulbs burning out, well theres easy explainations for things like that. Most of these uber bright wannabe aftermarket bulbs are higher wattage than factory, which causes much more heat. These bulbs generally tend to die very quickly, and the light output is negligibly better if at all. Bulbs colored in blue actually have less light output than a regular halogen bulb, so thats a no brainer as to why your ebay blue bulbs were crap compared to the silverstars. The silverstars have a very slight tint to the glass, so the light isnt diminished much if at all by them compared to regular halogens. I personally run both PIAA and Silverstars, with Silverstars as my 9005 bulbs, and PIAA as my 9006. Personally I too would say go with the silverstars over PIAA, as I dont see much if any difference between the two.
Regular 9006 factory bulbs
9005 Silverstar bulbs modified to work in a 9006 housing, pretty much identical to a 9006 except itll take 10w more power and produce a slightly brighter light. Notice how focused the beam is compared to the stock bulbs and their scattered pattern. This light is not blue, fuck blue, that crap is rediculous, and it actually hurts the performance of the bulb, but rather the beam is a very pure white.
Now this is a comparison shot of my 9005 silverstars and my 9006 PIAA's. PIAA is on the left. Now 9005 is a high beam bulb and therefore there is some slight scatter in comparison to a 9006 bulb because of the exposed light tip, where as a 9006 bulb has a coated tip, however as you can see the light emitted from them is pretty even in comparison.
