I found a 1991 Talon Tsi Awd 5spd, black with sliver bottom, and a sunroof out in the country near my house. It runs, but even when it is not in gear and you let the clutch out it moves, I think that means that it has a broken shift fork, right? The car cranked right up with no smoke after sitting for 6 months. The body is pretty straight, and there are 140,000 miles on the odometer. The factory rims are gone and replaced by hub-caps :) . Interior is in good shape, and it has a rebuilt turbo on it. I think it is worth $500...I am probably going to fix the tranny and sell the car. Any thoughts on this, and what my be wrong with the car would be greatly appreciated.

Wow, sounds like an awesome deal. Even if it didn't run, I'd buy it for that price because you could part out the interior even and make your money back... not to mention the motor and other parts. :)

Black and silver eh???

Yep, what Peter said...DO NOT BUY IT

you see, I used to own a black and silver Talon (as you can see in my sig) but unfortunately someone stole it a few days ago. So this must be my talon that some mean person is trying to make some quick cash off of. Did you happen to look under the back seats? Cause it is full of deadly spiders and snakes. And oh yeah, the odometer really has 1,400,000 miles on it. I just rolled it back a few hundred thousand. So as you can see, you do not want this car.
I heard there was a honda or something down that same road for .35 cents or so. Just go pick that thing up! Well, I'd better get going to pick up my stolen Talon, don't wanna be late.

:D

So all of you are saying I should buy it...what do you think the problem maybe though??? Shift fork(s), master cylinder...???

Let's just put it this way, If I had the opportunity to snatch up a running TSi for $500, you can bet I'd get it in a heart beat.
I just say buy the car, the problem I'm sure can be figured out and fixed, besides that, if worst comes to worst and it cost too much to fix, you can always part it out and probably triple your money.

Buy it - best case is that it's a mal-adjusted shifter cables or a broken shifter cable, worst case it's a busted shift fork, or even if the tranny is completely toast it's worth the $500... A used tranny is less than $5-700 and you'll have a good car for under $1200 at the most!

i'm with everyone else buy it! put a tranny in it and you've got yourself a good base to start with, a daily driver, beater, project car, etc for $1200 or so with a good tranny and a rebuilt turbo.

theres a 1g dohc talon in my area that someone is trying to sell for 700, if it was a turbo i'd snatch it up and sell off my crx's in a heartbeat. the cheapest i've seen 1g turbos is $1500 and awd's for around $2500. just wish i could have convinced my gf to go on a trip to nw vermont for a $300 tsi awd, i said hey you want to go on a tour through ben&jerry's this weekend? she then asked why i wanted to go..... well no $300 tsi awd for me:(

Cheap DSM's are great! I bought my 92 GST for $800 bucks! I have driven the piss out of it for almost a month, and the only thing that has went wrong was the ECU fried. 150 bucks later, I have a 950 dollar car. :D

As the others were not saying, YOU SHOULD ALREADY HAVE THE CAR AT YOUR HOUSE! What are you waiting for?? Don't read this! Get going!

Go get the thing man what are you waiting for!!!!! I picked up a 90 laser turbo for a case of beer!!! I'm not kidding....180,000 miles and tranny shot but hell the turbo is still good and I have a parts car for nothing. My buddy picked it up 2 years ago for next to nothing and just didn't want to mess with it when the tranny finally went. Budwieser can go a long way.....:D
