2.3 Stroker

I finally figured out why my new 2.3l stroker engine wasn't running right. The EGR valve blew its gasket and it was a huge vacume leak. And while I did that I changed my plugs and wires. Since my car was a N/T I didn't have a pigtail for the mas so the wires were soldered in place. I happened to find a pigtail so I wired that in while I was at it.

So to clarify, my car was running fine (other then the vacume leak) with no engine light on.

The next day I 1. Wire in the mas pigtail 2. Change plugs and wire 3. I put new gasket on MAS.

I then start my car and it idles like crap and my check engine light comes on and rich black smoke is coming out the tail pipe. I take it for a drive and the car runs great at higher rpms, but if I let my foot off the gas it stalls.

I then decide to check for error codes and I get 5.
Intake temp, MAS, Barometric pressure, TPS and coolant temp sensor. # 25, 21, 14, 13, 14.

Please help!

1) your "new" MAS is either dead, or miswired,
2) your TPS is either dead, or miswired (unpluged)
3) your coolant temp sensor (2 wires on the bottom of the Water neck, green and black IIRC) probably came off, or the wires broke (they get VERY VERY brittle)

thanks for helping,

I did try a different MAS, I tripple checked the wiring. TPS, coolant temp sensor wasn't touched, and had no problem earlier that day.

It has to be a common power or ground wire between them, or my ECU crapped out.

My friends car had the exact same problem/symptoms as you and it turned out to be a bad ecu. The values for the Intake temp, Barometric pressure, TPS and coolant temp sensor were all over the place on the logger at idle, making the car run so rich it would foul out the plugs. Pull the ecu and inspect the board(both sides) for burns and a strong stinky odor.
