raced a 350Z

hey everyone, tonight was one of my best nights. i took my supra to my friends house and showed him my cheap mod that i did and gave him a ride in it. well he was like"DUDE, let me get my Z", i was like ok. so he got it and we lined up on this road. He had the countdown. I'm reved up to about 4.5-5. 3-2-1-GO! I slipped the clutch a little and dumped it. we're side by side. wheel spinnage was out the ass. i hear him shifting to second, i look over to my speedo and it's at 40, still spinning. i shift to second, still with him, gained a foot or so somewhere in there and kept at it, top of second coming up and third is coming in, and by this time he said that he was doing like 74 or something, so i was about the same but a little faster. then we had to slow down due to a turn on the road.
so I was very impressed with my car, and he almost shit his pants because i kept up soo good. he said that he powershifted and gave it all he had, and i still kept up.
we came back to where we launched, and all you see is 4 black lines down the street. it was a pretty cool race and it definately showed me where my car is at the moment. hopefully i'll get a 3in turbo-back, good intake, and a bc, then i'll probably beat him, oh yeah, and tires

, mine became slicks all of a sudden.
well ust wanted to share my night, feedback is welcome.

well, i got an mkiii supra. got a muffler that came with the car. shimmed wastegate, to 8psi, and a filter. that's about it for me. he is all stock.
if i had an mkiv, then there would be no question as to who would have won.

i raced my buddies 350z w/ intake and exhaust before he put a 100shot on it and before i had my new turbo and fmic. I was on basically 15psi, stock t25, intake, turbo-back and we were dead even. At the very end, he pulled a 1/4 of a car by like 110-115. Now he has his 100 shot and i got my 50trim and dejon race fmic and I pulled him by about 2 and a half cars.

350Zs are only 14 second rides stock and don't hold thier boost very well. (Even some of the FI guys are barely seeing 12s without serious work and a lot of praying) As said an MKIV would have tore it up stock.

Of course I would have thought the MKIII would have done better than you did. (which reminds me...Im heading over to Supraforums to see whats been going on..

)

well my car is dark metalic silver.

s8er95z- by holding boost, do you mean hold the acceleration rate? because 350z's dont have turbo's.

well, the mkiii's are 15.2 stock i think, not too sure. when i get more mods, i should be able to put some car lengths between us.

I know though, that him in top gear and me in top gear, i will smoke him. like a 70-top speed race me in 5th and him in 6th.

The aftermarket TT kits and such.. I used to visit my350z forums and the running joke was it was a ticking timebomb with FI.

The 350z is a sad joke. It's overpriced for what it does, it's not that fast, it does not handle or brake that well and it certainly does not look very good either. It does nothing impressive actually. Now lets see it also has a tire wear problem and a tranny problem with the manuals from what I've heard. POS IMO.

I really cant believe that a slightly modded mk3 could keep up as they trap 88mph stock when brand new and the 350z's see 100mph stock.
Not saying it didnt happen but just suprised.

As far as nissans own website they say 26.700 for the base model so after everything is said and done after tax and destination you are at 29k.
And you dont even get floor mats for that price.

yeah my buddy just bought a new 350z and paid 29 out the door for the enthusiast package (lsd, hid's, traction control)

You can pay past $32k for the top of the line loaded 350z...waste of money IMO.

you dont find 350s attractive? am i the only one that thinks they look pretty darn sexy? purely in terms of looks, id take one over a dsm any day.

I have to agree. When the 350z came out I expected alot. But it really let me down. 91+ 300zx twin turbos are alittle quicker 1/4 mile. The 350z is a let down in my book.

When I bought my 91 300zx twin turbo. I got the fever and wanted to test drive a 350z. Well I went to the dealer and test drove one. Took my dad with me so he could give it a go! He wasnt impress and neither was I. It's nice to have a new car. But it wouldnt be my pick.

Anywho we got back after test driving the 350z. The salesperson said you want to trade you 91 300zx twin turbo in? I played along and said sure. They took it out and came back with smiles. I think they enjoyed the test drive.

The salesmen 2 of them. One was just out of high school. The other one was maybe into 50's? The high schooler said, "cool car I never see one! pretty quick" I take it over a 350z

The other old fart was like whatever.

So they look it up to see what its worth. 91 300zx twin turbo 52k miles. Came back with a offer for $3,000k. I wasnt mad. I know what my cars worth. I told them you know its worth more. They repied I know but thats all we can give you.

I would never trade a 300zx twin turbo in for a 350z. But I got it out of my system and im still happy. I bought a 300zx instead of a 350z.
