Today I replaced my 2.0 NT's tranny fluid with about 2.3 quarts of Penzoil Syncromesh - or until it poured out the filler hole. After that I tightend up the filler bolt and fired up the car. The first thing I noticed was my clutch was even looser than before (like no pressure) and would barley engage at all. I pumped it some and went inside. Went back out and looked at my clutch fluid and it looked bone dry. Went to checkers and got a big bottle dot3 brake/clutch and started pouring it in using funnel. First thing I notice is is pouring out already and apparently I didn't need as much as I thought but I could've sworn it was below the low mark when I first looked?

Either way, my clutch does have a little pressure in now (about as much as before tranny fluid change) but it' making it a bitch get into 1st and the shift to 2nd is slow and notchy still. It seems like the tranny fluid wants to help but my clutch isn't engaging correctly. Since I've bought the car I've put 55K miles on it and don't know when the clutch was changed before that. Do you think my clutch is bad or do I just need to bleed it or something to get good pressure again. Thanks for help.

You're losing fluid. or so it sounds like it. Check the slave cylinder, lines, and the master cylinder. You didn't touch anything on the slave cylinder while you were underneath did you?

I know this sounds stupid but I did bang my hand real good on what looks to be the clutch shift lever (goes into the front of the tranny) after the filler bolt loosened and my hand went flying. Not exactly sure what the slave cylinder looks like.

But I looked at that and nothing looked bent going into the tranny. I'm not to sure if I'm loosing fluid after all. I need to check that again. It's clear fluid but I could've sworn it was bone dry when I first looked at it.

Here's what happened to my hand:

You probably hit your hand on the clutch release fork. Check to make sure the fork is still properly positioned with the slave cylinder rod. Also check and make sure the slave cylinder bleeder is tight.

Thanks for the info. I'm pretty sure that the clutch release fork is ok and positioned correctly still. What I just did seemed to really work some wonders. I found the clutch adjustment lever info on vfaq and went out and did that adjustment and now its going into 1st much easier and smooth shift into 2nd! Seems to have helped a lot. Still could use a little more clutch pressure thou.

BTW, vfaq and talk rules! :D

Also, I'll check the bleeder when I get a chance to see if that might be causing a little bit of pressure loss.
