Hi..new to the dsm world..but have always been interested in them. I've always been more of a honda guy..been on honda-tech for five years strong. I came across a talon in my town and i'm supposed to go look at it tomorrow. I'm not familiar with any dsms reallly, nor am i familiar with turbocharged cars in general.

I'm not looking to make this an 11 second car..I just want something fun..a car that will get up and go when it needs to and handle well. Hell, i'm satisfied with anything faster than a 15.0 so long as it takes turns good.

Heres the car.. http://www.dsmtuners.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=29918&sort=1&cat=2&page=2

if you could just give me any input on what you think of it..also what i should be looking for. any red flags or anything.. it'd be appreciated. Thanks

The car looks pretty damn decent and $3k/OBO isn't a bad price for it. The only thing that stands out to me is that he didn't list any maintenance records other than a tranny flush and engine rebuild from a Mitsubishi mechanic. Find out when the timing belt was last done, that's the biggest thing you want to worry about. Lastly, maybe it's just me but it really speaks to me when the owner can't even wash the car when he's putting it up for sale. Along with worn down front tires and the dirty car pictures, I'd worry if he's been taking care of it.

I should also mention he's running 15 psi on the mbc.

he's asking 2,800 and when i told him i have cash he said good, we can work something out...so i'm hoping for $2,500.

what other maintenance records would you need in addition to a full rebuild..isnt that asbsolute maintenance in itself? I would think he did the timing belt when he did the rebuild 20k ago..but i'll definitely find out. i hear 50k intervals is the way to go with that?

I agree with you that he should have cleaned the car..apparently he has driven it in a few months because he bought an Audi. Tires wear though..and I know I wouldnt care to put brand new tires on a car that i'm selling unless they were bald with radial coming through.

A big red flag as far as I'm concerned is the fact that he is running 15psi on a 16g turbo with no supporting mods for it.

If I was you, I would be looking for a stock DSM. Buying a modded car is like is like playing with a live grenade, you never know when its going to blow. If he was cramming a 16g's worth of 15psi into that engine, I'm surprised it hasn't melted a piston yet. I don't even see any mention that he rewired the fuel pump.

I also just noticed it has 160,000 on it, he should be lucky to get $2K out of that thing. Ask him for all the maintainence records from it, if he has none tell him to have a nice day. Hell I would make him do a compression test on it before I would buy it, but thats just me.

this is for true for any modified car. same could be said about any of the hondas i've had..many people say a swapped motor is not a car you want to buy. its rare to come across one of these stock..and they're usually a bit more money as well. i'd rather not take the depreciation hit on exhaust and other bolt-ons.

i've seen plenty of people on here, and other dsm websites with no upgraded fuel management running a 16g..should they be scared of melted pistons as well? when i drive it tomorrow..is there anything i should be looking for to prove that he's got too much power going into the motor?

maybe a car like this would go for 2 grand by you..but certainly not by me..of course i'm going to see what records he has..especially those of the rebuild. i'll carfax it too and be weary of multiple owners. i was planning on doing a compression test as well..i just need to go out and buy one..i'm just cheap and lazy.
