I'd like to start off with a few things. I currantly own a 1991 Isuzu Impulse AWD Turbo... if you guys have heard of them... that is. I'm leaning towards a new project...

What kind of engine is in the picture posted. I hear it is a TRUE JDM engine... not the original motor. The intake is different or something.

Difference between 1990-1991 Talons

How reliable are these cars... when they break, what goes wrong.

Sourcing for parts... pistons, rings, valves, transmission/transfer case

How well will these cars hold up to rev-limiter shifting?

I'd like just a basic overview. I've done a bit of research on the net and havnt found much.

What series engines do the TSI's have... and what engine is in this car?

This is the car I am looking at purchasing. ANY INFORMATION would be greatly appreciated.

What exactly is a cyclone intake? better? worse? I havnt seen too many of these intakes at cardomain.com... Could this engine be a JDM? or evo or whatever? Sorry for the N00Bness... but I'm an isuzu fan... not dsm "yet"

if the intake came with the engine i've heard of a JDM 2.4 liter "cyclone engine" that is what i remember it being called, i dont know much about it, thats all i can give you on that, just that. heh sry

its the 2.0l cyclone engine ... its a full engione swap unless someone just swapped intake and valve cover

rumors or 2.1 2.2 and 2.4l cyclone engines have never been proven to me or anyone i know ... despite people insisting to me

there is a "1.8l 4g64" .... but its not 4g64, its a diff engine code ... those came factory w/ yollow top injectors and evo 16g's

and it doesnt have 215k miles, thats kilometers unless that speedo is ment to read 240mph ... its got 135k miles on it

It looks pretty nice.I would get it if it ran straight,no leaks,no weird noises, well no weird noises for a dsm :p .It does have a jdm engine,It's most likely from the galant vr-4,because the evo engine doesn't just "BOLT" on.Chances are the Cyclone effect on the intake manifold is'nt activated,It's a PITA for minimal if any gains.I believe it'sa dual runner of some kind that opens 1 runner at lower speeds as to not loose low end power and activates both at WOT.You can always buy a USDM manifold for 20 bucks and bolt it on there.Good luck with it. Just curious what's the HP and performance specs on those Isuzus?

Isuzu Under-rated the isuzu at 160, where'as a stock impulse has been dynoed at 180. Doing a few minimal things like exaust and freeing up the intake, a stock engine can push as high as 300hp. I'm guessing I'm pushing around 200 with the work that is done.

Any way to tell if the engine is a evo, or just a stock engine with a cyclone intake? Under the hood looks different... the routing of those cables in front of the intake for example.

Can someone answer the questions I asked in the first post. I've done a search but I dont have enough knowledge on "words" and "modles" yet to understand much. I've read threw most of the stickies so far.

the evo motors have the tranny on the other side. so its not an evo motor cant be because if was swapped then everything would be backwards(i.e the inake would be up against the radiator) or your tranny would be on the otherside. it could be however a cyclone intake or a whole jdm swap. i would get it as long as the price is fair and there are no weird noises ( WEIRD FOR A DSM ) and it ran good with no leaks. Good luck.

Not all evo motors are positioned backwards. Only Teh evo 4 and up are like that. The evo 1-3 are exactly the same thing as a 6 bolt 4g63 that would come out of any 1g dsm, but it has a 16g, 9.0-1 compression pistons, a cyclone intake, and bigger injectors. There is a 50/50 chance that it is an evo, or a galant motor. The evo 1-3 motor bolts right in. Everything hooks up the same.

yes exactly,i was talking about the evo III,which is the same engine as ours, although it doubtfully is an evo III engine since they were 7 bolt and that is a 90-91 and most likely has a VR-4 engine. What color are the injectors?Even thought the evo III did have a 4g63 like ours,it was my understanding that they weren't just a bolt on,but i could be wrong on that one.Like a previous poster said check out vfaq.com for a lot of these answers.
