LOL X-Pride. Man I have to tell ya I'd feel much better if it would have been a Lingenfelter twin turbo Corvette instead of an Escort! Also while true it would probably have a lot of life left in it since it's almost like new and tame as a baby but geeze man I've got that never ending need for speed. Sometimes it just doesn't pay to be an adrenalin junky! :)

Ok I had a 90 FWD turbo A/T.
Get this. It was a swap.
The VIN said non-turbo.
I got it for $300. :D
But since it was a swap it had the better turbo and injectors.
Lucky me right?
Let me tell you something.
I have a 2g FWD M/T... (I have some head work but mostly stock car)
And I drove both right?
Not even close.
STILL NIGHT AND DAY.
My best friend has an AWD auto 2g. Mostly stock.
I'd kill it, off the line I'd still catch it. Roll... destroy it.
By 90mph I'd have 6-7 cars, easy.
Its that different.
The 90 was ok because it had the manual turbo and injectors. And it was hardly 100%. Someone left it for dead, I had it up in a week. ;)
I overboosted it to death... lmfao... lifted the head a full .25 inch.
But I guess if you carefully built a strong fresh engine, and got a shift kit... you might be able to click off some kills. If you did some good work... I could see you in the low 14's. Which BTW, is quicker than most of the stuff on the street.
As far as escorts, your all on ketamine. I used to put 4 or 5 cars on them with the sickly Galant. Manual or not. Your car must really suck. And the Galant seriously ran high 16's 17's. And most N/A DSM's kept up WAY better than escorts... Right before I threw the rod, I raced one that baited me. On a spun bearing, misfire, and still smashed it. They're slower than cavaliers...

What a nice response. Thank you so much for the help and kindness Asmodeus. While I won't waste my time defending either Escorts or my car because IMHO they are both absolute turds I will say that a stock turbo, M/T, AWD DSM is also not the meanest beast on the planet and by some standards could even be considered a turd also. Also I'm not going to rag out on anyone’s car because we all have different standards off how serious we are, how much money and time we have to invest, and what bracket we are looking at racing in unless you're strictly street.

In my original post I was asking for help and wondering if my car should be this slow not having a lot of experience with DSM's personally. I was certainly not idolizing the Escort or asking how I can get my car into the top fuel class. I do appreciate all those that had something constructive to say very much.

Real life experience can be very misleading, I raced 2 scorts, both had manuals, it was very close, but I'd lose.

Some guy was being a prick intown with his auto scort, and I sped up so he could not cut me off, basically we raced from 30-60, I did not have to try very hard to beat him.

My roomate has a 98 zx2, and I have driven it 2x. I didn't push it, well, yeah I did, It felt slower than my car, but I will tell you... I lost against 2 manuals with good drivers.

That's all my experience with them. Remember some people don't keep good maintenance, so just cause you can beat one car doesn't mean you can beat all cars that are the same.

Hey, at least maybe he thought you weren't racing? ;)

My car doesnt suck, it runs consistently mid 16's with my el cheapo muffler???
