I just got done installing my new Evo III GT turbo on my 95 TSI fwd. All I can say is damn. What a difference. from 5000 till redline there is a huge difference from the t-25. Im only running at 14psi too compared to 17 on the t-25. Its a great looking turbo, now I need some more supporting mods.

Um, aren't the GT's Chinese pieces of shits, yet many people are being tricked about them being a "new" turbo.

I believe they are from taiwan. Why do people think because it is from oversea's its a piece of shit? Most of the shit you buy is from china or somewhere along that area. EVOIII 16G GT version is actually better than the original EVOIII 16g, just because someone like slowboy bashed it doesn't mean it is a shit turbo, if slowboy told you to jump off a cliff would you? The GT comes ported and comes with a bigger wastegate flapper 34mm to be exact compared to the 28mm on the EVOIII 16g MHI. That means, it will flow better considering it is ported and all. Anyway, thats my 2 cents.

Alright then, I was definitly wrong on that one. That's good to know. Thanks guys. Good to know you love the turbo.

I just ordered one a few weeks ago. I have it sitting in the living room, hopefull to be installed this weekend. I think a lot of the issues with the turbo is bad marketing like Chicago said. If it was called the QRB42 Turbo there would be alot less b.s. with it.

Anyways...good to hear that you are enjoying the new turbo.

I think there is something wrong with that whole page. All they can do is bash it by saying the metal color looks different, but they never provided results from a metallurgist (sp) that I know of. I have seen lots of posts with people very happy with these turbos but have also seen 1 post where they said it failed. Not bashing SBR but I would like to see some scientific proof of the superior metal in an MHI turbo. Just my 2 cents.

i dont very much care for the way people bash this turbo without owning it. We dont like it when honda guys say our cars are pieces of shit cause they break down all the time (cause thats not true). I really think its a good turbo. I have only read good things about this turbo from people that have actually bought it (intentionally too) and installed it. If there is a problem with the turbo, it can probly be sent back to the vendor for a replacement or return if happening in the short amount of time people SAY they crap out in.

i also have a evo 3 gt sitting in my room..i think the peice of crap is the one sold on ebay by SS autochrome..i was about to use that buti noticed the housing has no markings on it whatsoever i purchased mine from turbochargers.com and what also made me feel a lil more comfy was the fact that RRE also sold them and they're a pretty reputable place. i got mine for 500 shipped..and yes it does look pretty damn sweet too bad its sitting in the box in my room in the corner!! arghh

I bought a GSX from someone about two months ago witht he EVO III GT turbo, and as he said it had the 34mm flapper "mod". I had one issue with the turbo, well thought it was the turbo. Turned out that it was the tube running from the valve cover down the intake pipe it self that was getting oil in the compressor housing. The turbo all together pulled good, boost came on strong and never let off. Also right before this on i had the SBR big 16g on my GST and to honest there wasnt THAT much of a difference. Of course the GSX pulled more on bottom and less on top that the GST due to traction but the turbos felt about the same. If any difference id have to say the GT pulled harder. Cant give a report about how the turbo stands up over time cause the GSX is gone.
Thanks
Dustin

was the SBR big16g you had ported and/or clipped Dustin? I'm running the b16g ported and clipped from RRE when they sold it years back and I enjoy it a lot. I'm just wondering how my turbo would compare to the new GT.

Gus

Ported, but not clipped. Ill give a little on top to spool the turbo faster for some more bottom end power. My freind actually just bought a GSX that ran low into the 12s with this turbo. Hes trying to sell the car ive posted it on here and hes posted it on dsm tuners and all but so far for ud this turbo has pulled hard. The turbo holds strong at 23 psi all the way to a redline. I still cant give no reports on how the life of the turbo is but i know we beat it to death on his and can mine and the turbo begs for more.

Dustin

It's made in Taiwan not china, these turbo's haven't been on the market long enough to give a real review on them. Once they have been out there for 4-5 years and haven't cracked to pieces because of shitty casting and even shittier "stock porting" then i'll listen when someone bashes or raves about the turbo.

ended up buying one on ebay by mistake due to a shady listing. my mistake since I didn't look carefully at the pics. I'll install it next weekend and report back with results. I run about 4,000 miles a month for 6 months out of the year so that's a good 24k, we'll see what I find.
