I'm having a bit of trouble with my car burning either oil or coolant. It's got massive amounts of white smoke coming out whenever I accelerate, and small amounts of the same smoke at idle. I was just wondering what could cause this.

I haven't been able to check the turbo and all that. I just got the car and it's without license plates, so I can't take it on the street, and it kicks out WAY too much smoke to do it in my driveway. It's got 156,687 miles on it and is a 1991. Lots of things can go wrong with that many miles. How do you perform a leakdown test? That question should probably be in newbie, but oh well.

blue smoke would oil.... white smoke is water/antifreeze. sounds like maybe a bad head gasket leaking internally. check your radiator fluid level when car is COLD.... start her up and see how low fluid is in radiator. if its low, there is your problem....
