ok,well im getting a 91 talon tsi,5spd, with a new engine in it basically w/ 10,900 miles on it.and currently he has in it,a boost controller, short throw shifter,2,900 pound racing clutch, with the racing disk itself,im pretty sure bigger fuel injectors also..and the stock turbo, which is spooling like new...he said he is running 14psi right now,and if he runs it any higher, with them mods,it will ruin the engine,so he sed it needs more mods..to raise the boost..so if i was going to buy a bigger turbo,or minor things like.a bigger fuel pump,ect...wud i be able to raise the boost to 15+,or will i need an aftermarket turbo.plus,if i got an aftermarket turbo, would i need to get bigger pistons, ect???

thanks for the help

first of all you need an aftermarket boost guage-stock isnt accurate. definitly get a fuel pump.. you should be able to take boost to 15-16psi at this point but i strongly recommend some type of air/fuel guage and control(safcII is nice) - and your gonna need to tune so a datalogger would help.. before pistons or a bigger turbo, make sure you have tuning equiptment... without tuning youll start to hit fuel cut, or cause damage

The main thing you need to run over 15psi safely is a larger fuel pump or even hard wiring your stocker will carry you further. The key is to have a datalogger so you can watch for signs of trouble as you up the boost.

i just looked at it again.it also has a full exaust w/ 2.5in piping,all the way back,it DOES have a boost gauge,and a air-fuel rat.gauge aswell...it is running 14psi now.and i do have a walboro 255,fuel pump that isnt installed yet..Im sure i can run around 16 with that or so?

Just for laughs I wanted to see what kind of boost I could run on the stock turbo. Race gas, 550s, MAFT, 3" exhaust and waste gate unhooked. 27psi and a 13.2 pass. Then on the way home my friend spotted steam coming out of the exhaust. The only thing it did was blow the head gasket between the 1 & 2 cylinders. The point of this story is yes you can run more than 14#s of boost with the proper mods, and don't be a fool like me.

If you are wondering about the car. It was a 91 GSX that I picked up for 200 bucks from a guy who didn't know how work on them. And I just pulled the parts off of my 90 model since it's block was at the machine shop. Fun times.

sounds like you have some driving issues there marc... buddy of mine ran a 13.3 @ around 103 all with a 14b @17psi. sounds like you blew your hg for a 1/10th of a second! back to the subject at hand you should be good to turn it up to ~16 and have no problems but like all the others have said get a logger so you dont kill a very low milage motor.
