I was about to clean my lifters since they were ticking so I took off the timing belt cover and came upon something terrible. There is a cut on the timing belt (which is no good). So, I need to replace the timing belt TODAY and I need that tension tool but the dealer is close and I can't get it from them. WHAT SHOULD I DO??? How can I create that tool myself and what parts do I need. Here's the picture of the cut. Any help is appritiated

Go to www.vfaq.com and look at the steps for setting the tensioner. There is a pin you can stick in it to hold it down. If your timing belt tight you should be able to slip the pin back in without using the tensioner tool. If you dont have a pin or something of the sort you can you a allen wrench... I think it is 5mm but not positive. Either that or pull everything off and use a bench vice to reset/recompress the tensioner then slip the pin in.

Read up on VFAQ and you should be able to understand what I am talking about.

I've read the vfaq. But I don't really want to mess with my battery bracket since I don't have the rod to thread it afterward. Is there anything alse I could use to get the job done?

If you're not willing to use the bracket then you'll either have to wait until your dealership opens and see if they have one, or you can try to use a hold down from an autoparts store, but the trick would be finding one that has the appropriate threads.

Wow, you are lucky you caught that before it got worse.
yeah, my instincts keep me out of trouble :D But I'm in some deep shit right now. Do all engines require a tensioner tool or does the 4g63 just do? I didn't use any tensioner tool when I replaced the timing belt on my celica alltrac..........

Use this one for the pulley. I sell them real cheap. $20 lol

JK, I didn't use this but one of my friends did on his DD.

You dont need the tensioner tool. Use a pick to turn the eliptical tensioner pulley until the belt is tight to the point where you can remove and insert the pin into the hydraulic tensioner with ease.
