Ok, so I just got done changing my timing belt, balance belt, and alternator belt (which are all aligned correctly) and I have a problem. I went and tried to start the car. And it turns over very weakly (a lot weaker than it did before the belt change). I was turning it over for around 1-3 seconds and I've heard my exhaust backfire. Now, I don't really want to try and see if it starts up since I'm affraid I'll mess something up . I also cleaned my lifters prior to the belt change, but I doubt this has anything to do with the problem. plz help me out guys if you know what could be wrong . :(

After you put the belt on did you turn the motor over by hand 6 times and let it sit for 15 minutes or so then check the movement of the tensioner? Then turn it over a few more times to make sure all the timing marks lined up?

Also, did you bathe the lash adjusters in oil then pump them to make sure all the oil was out of them?

Yes, I turned the motor a couple of times when everything was adjusted and all marks lined up correctly.

All the oil is out of the lifters.

Were the dowel pins on the cams at 12 o'clock when the number one cylinder was at TDC on the compression stroke? I'm not trying to make it sound like you don't know what you're doing. Sometimes a different perspective will help. Also, was it running okay before you changed the t-belt?

Ummm, no. One pin is supposed to be at 3 o'clock and the other is supposed to be at 9 o'clock and that's how they're positioned currently. Seems like I'll have to take everything apart tommorow and see what the fuck is wrong and correct the mistake  . I hate this

And, yes, the car was running perfectly before this.

Looks like this is the problem. Both pins are supposed to be at 12 o'clock. The marks on the cam gears are supposed to be at 3 and 9 when this happens. You'll want to do a leak down test when you straighten it all out to see if everything is okay. Hopefully you didn't jack up any valves, but it's pretty likely that you did. Sorry for the bad news :(

Oh ok. Sorry for the misunderstanding. Yes, the "pins" are at 12 o'clock (look at the pic, I guess it's right). and the marks are at 3 o'clock and 9 o'clock. The alignment seems correct, doesn't it?
