I have a boost leak in my car and I tried to get a tb and bov gasket .For some reason they were out of stock. My question is can I make up a gasket with the gasket paper you get at Auto Zone or Pep Boys? I cannot stand driving the car anymore. I was going to use RTV but really dont think it is a good idea. Thanks for any input.

If you don't mind shopping online to pick it up, show around at the various dsm vendor sites...Most vendor's sell the popular dsm gaskets, and especially companies that make UICP kit's usually have them around to go with their piping kits...

Also try JNZTuning...They are your best-bet for OEM replacement parts now-a-days; Of course there's always SATAN :D

I dont mind shopping online but I have time tomorrow to work on it. I am a very busy person and I really dont get this kindof opportunity.Do you think it will work? The tb has a hard plastic gasket and I am wondering if it acts as a spacer as well. Any ideas?

If you're good at making the gaskets yourself you should be okay. I've never tried it for those components before, but I've used those for others in a pinch and they've always worked well.

Just use RTV silicone; it will work just fine until you get the actual gasket. Don't gob the stuff on, use your finger to spread an even 1-2mm thick layer of it on. Make sure the surface is absolutely clean; use a razor blade to scrape any gasket remnants off, then use some isopropyl alcohol to wipe the area down- this will remove any potential petroleum products, which would cause premature failure. The oil residue that is present in your intake because of the nature of our PCV system will eventually cause the RTV to fail; this is why I reccomend it only as a band-aid solution until you can purchase the actual gaskets you require.

As far as where to get the gasket? Check out www.RockAuto.com - same stock as napa/autozone, at much cheaper prices; return customer discounts, and a variety of shipping/payment options. Fel-pro gasket: $1.55+$6.19 shipping=$7.74 shipped to your door, in 3 business days via UPS

Are you still on the stock smic, If so you might wanna check the upper ic inlet for small pitted holes. I was shocked to find that my boost leak was there the freaking whole time lol!!!. So what I did was dropped the hose and clap bleow the affected area on the smic, now theres no leak and my Dsm pull a hell of alot harder now!

I used RTV blue to get a tight seal on my 1G BOV for years...never leaked.
Have since changed BOV's, but the trick is to let it dry and cure for at least 8 hours. It will work for the TB too, but your enemy there is heat, but I think they sell RTV for high temps now.

I've made my own gaskets for those locations, & never had a problem. :D
Thats good to hear. I bought a roll of gasket paper and going to try it out. I dont have the luxury of leaving the car set for 8 hours. I work on my car in my grandma's garage and I have to get her car in the garage over night.
I still have the stock SMIC and will check for holes. I justhave to do something fast cuz the gas mileage is suffering bad! PLus I get fuel cut at 4500 rpms. Its been a long road getting this car running right. I had a missing problem that turned out to be my ecu.
I wish I never got rid of my 90 gsx. It had a big 16g full exhaust and it ran like a champ no matter what you did to it. Never had a problem except a blown 14b

I've never had any first hand experience with the gasket paper, but a friend of mine used it for exhaust gaskets. I think it was made by Mr. Gasket and he never had a problem with it. The only thing he had a problem with was trying not to have ragged edges around the center hole that he cut. That stuff is pretty tough, but that's what you want... Hope that helps.

well I made up new gaskets for the tb,tb elbow and bov.So far so good the car is responsive and runs good. I am not able to test out the car since its been snowing all afternoon. For some reason the CEL light is on. I took a quick look around but could not see anything out of the ordinary. I adjusted the TPS sensor slightly to see if it made any difference since I had the tb off. I disconnected the logger I borrowed and dont remember how he hooked it up.Its a 3 wire setup with connectors crimped on. Anyone have a similar setup? Or all they all different?
