Does anyone know if a stock 1g driveshaft can handle high 9's - low 10's? Last year I ran an 11.2 with a 2.0 60 foot time due to spinning and short shifting. I am putting some sticky's on the summer and was wondering what the driveshaft can handle. I am getting driveshaft shop axels but money is a little tight. Any info is appriciated. Thank you.

not advanced, , but to answer the question, if you are riding on the 3 bolt rear end change it out before you drop them slicks on there, they will break stuff fast, get a 4 bolt rear end and axles, and you should be good for high 9's low 10s, before having to upgrade the axles

Not an expert on the subject but I know ONE thing that will be a big factor. Weight of the car.

I'm hoping to get into the low 11's this year with the STOCK 3-bolt rear.

Car weighs in at 2450 pounds and yes it has a 4 bolt. My question is, will the driveshaft be able to handle high 9's - low 10's?

It will depend on how you launch it and whether or not something else in the drivetrain will break first. If everything else is strong and you sidestep the clutch, you can definitely bust the xfer case or yoke. A friend of mine busted 4 xfer cases/yokes at the high-9 power level at a similar race weight, before switching to the Driveshaft shop xfer case and two-piece driveshaft.

If you take it easy on the holeshot, you will probably be able to keep the stock stuff intact.

When I drive my car, I try to get the most out of it or break it. Not worried about the transfer case, I have many of those. Just need to find out if there is anyone in the high 9's that has a stock driveshaft.

A friend of mine here, Wes Hess ran 9.9 @ 147 (4800ft elevation too) on the stock driveshaft and stock axles.

I broke my 3 bolt axel at the 60 foot mark. That was with a big 16g. May have been twisted a little from launching it before that, who knows. I would just replace the rear right away if building a race car. It is no fun to try to launch a car and try to launch it soft enough to not break your rear end.

Why?
I watched a regular at PRP run mid 9's rolling off the line and then laying into it heavy. Correction. I think it was a 9.48 I saw that night.
Not a single launch. Just coasted off and went WOT after he had everything rolling.

Why break stuff if you don't have to?

Because you can get more out of the car if you don't puss it off the line. 60 foot times are pretty big when you get to the end of the 1/4..........

Also, if I was running a 9.48, I would be doing everything in my power to get to the next level. An 8 second pass is every dsm owners dream!!! :D

I've made probably 200-300 if not more passes on the same stock driveshaft. I'm making over 600hp at the wheels running 38lbs of boost. I don't baby it, with a best 60' of 1.53 with BFG Drag Radials. I've never broken any driveline parts except the stock 90 tranny once, and finally the stock center diff just a couple months ago.

You got some more info on you car? Thats impressive. You must really know how to drive that thing. Do you have any video's of you at the track getting off the line.
