Hey guys, Does anyone know of any sites which they test octane boosters to see which ones work the best?. I bought 2 Lucas octane booster bottles (30$), Pack of 4 Penzoil ones (15$), 2 STP (10$). Which one do you think will raise it the most, any sites would be greatly appretiated. I think the Lucas would be the best just simply because it was pricey, and the STP is cheap so I dont expect much haha :) , Thanks

Just go to a flooring store and buy a 5 gal drum of toluene. It is a pure hyrdocarbon that can raise your octain into the up to about 98 ron(depending on pump gas you start with). You also would never want to add more then say 25-30%(absolute max you'd want to run). General thoes "octain boosters" are nothing more then injector cleaner.

I bet if you look at the ingredients, one of them will be either toulene or xylene. Go to sherman williams and ask for some instead.

I have used the lucas in the past strictly as an injector cleaner, I have never expected any real octane point gains when using any of those. The lucas seems to work good not because it's "pricey" but because I think lucas makes a good product. I did a at home flow test on my golf's CIS injection just 2 days ago and I use lucas cleaner in that car even with near 200k on the stock injectors they all flow equal amounts in very consistent patterns. I would also recommend b-12 chemtool and of course seafoam.
I'm not sure why you bought so many bottle's of cleaner and octane booster, you have enough to probably outlast the car. I use maybe 1 bottle every 8 to 10 thousand miles on my daily, any more I think is just too much. Seriously, you bought enough lucas to treat up to 50 gallon's of gas.

I wonder how much Dale Earnhardt Jr. got paid so Outlaw could put a photocopy of his signature on the package? Anyway, I'll buy your injectors when you want to sell them. We all know they'll be clean! ;)

Hmm so a waste of money it was   . Me and my buddy were thinking of splitting on one of those huge gallons of 110 race gas. How much do they go for again?

I also found it weird, I peeled off the penzoil label and that outlaw stuff was underneath lol :p

Gvrdsmer-On all of them it says to add the whole bottle in

I have also read this, but some also say that they will treat up to 25 gallons. I will usuall only add half or so to my VW since it only has a 12 gallon tank, like I said I treat all of that stuff as a cleaner. To much as unlikely as it is might hurt something. For the dsm if you're adding it to a full tank I would'nt be afraid to put the whole bottle in, be sure to put the cleaner or booster ect. in then add some gas to make sure it's all washed down the filler tube, this is important with the lucas as it is so thick.

That a very good idea, because all of that stuff you bought is basically junk. Go here, VP Racing Fuels and then click on the "Contact Us" link, then click on the VP Distribution Map link to see which Canada or US district contact is closest to you. E-mail that person and they'll let you know who you can buy it from locally. It has worked for me in the past, twice. I run VP fuel at the track. When she's all together. ;)

the only one that works is liquid Schwartz, but its pretty hard to get.
lol classic, as for octane boosters, go d-sport mag did an article about them a while back actually some do work, but only when used as directed, i believe nos brand and nx express octane boost works, i would have to look up the mag again so..

But the octane numbers they reference "boosting" are on a different scale or something than what we are expecting at the pump. If I remember correctly, the octane boosters work on a scale that is 1/10th of the octane value you see at the pump or something. I don't think you'll ever get 100 (R+M/2) octane from adding a bottle or two of that stuff to 91 (R+M/2) octane pump gas.
Another thing about some of them is that they'll use an additive like manganese or similar to actually suppress combustion and protect the end gases from igniting too fast during combustion.

Running a mix of 20-30% Toluene is supposed to be pretty good, but expensive.

Hahaha! Nice, the only octane booster that will make your DSM go to plaid.

About octane booster; I would go with race gas; or toulene/xylene if you can find it cheap. Home depot rips you off, like 7$ a gallon. Supposedly Sherwin Williams has 5 gallon jugs for cheap, like 20$. But the local one didn't have that in stock.

(he says 2.50$/gallon; not sure when and where that was...)

Also the ratting on the booster cans is 1/10 what it says. For example: when a can says it will raise your octane "1 point" it means .1 from 92 to 92.1 not really worth it is it? However 10% toulene (about 1.5 gallons) will raise it from 92 to 94.2

How come you want to spend all that $$$ on a drum of Race fuel?? You have a lightly modded 1g and it's still pretty cold for the track....??

You guys don't have 93octane around you>?

By the time I get to the speedway I will hopefully have fuel management, turbo swap and intercooler upgrade. So not too bad :)

No 93 at all around here, they have 92 but thats at Mohawk, and I have heard countless times that gas is dirty.
