I'm not sure of the average life but if u need an ecu I have one laying on my shelf. My friend had a 1.8 Talon and I swapped his engine with a 2.0 from a laser I rolled. I have a bunch of parts from his 1.8 laying on the shelf in my garage. The ecu is there and in great shape. Car only had around 74k on it. I was gonna ebay it but if U want i can sell it for like 50 bucks i couldn't imagine shipping being any more than 5 bucks. Let me know if U want it. Contact me at Eagleboyrox@yahoo.com

if you keep buying used ecu's there gunna die out eventually until you get a rebiult one with new caps, or just replace the caps soon as u get one thats not fried yet. i kept doing the same thing, i went threw 2 ecu's, they would last about 6 months then die and the reason that is because the caps kept leaking which will happen to all the 1gs ecus if there not replaced.. good luck

that could be car issues..but other then that i suggest go with a new or rebuilt ECU with new caps...and what do you mean died like were your caps leaking or did it just quit?

i never really looked at them but it was more than likely the caps.. i finally gave up and paid 400 for a rebiult one... that was 4 yrs ago and it has bin fine since. all my dsm's i have all had bad ecu's when i baught them and it was because of the caps leaking. that was my 1.8, 2.0 and my 2.0T awd. the only thing i have ever heard burning the ecu out is the isc (idle speed control) sensor becasue they short out and kill the ecu and that has bin confirmed by the person who has rebiult my ecu's. although i have never seen one do that.. i think hes a member of this site.. but heres a link explaining what happens.. Ageing ecu's

I had my 93 ECU cleaned up and recapped in 2000, no issues before or after, just wanted to play it safe. Capital area DSM club setup a group deal with a TV repair man to do them.

I think I'm on my third ecu, but it's one I hacked together... the first one fried one of the logic chips for the ISC, then the second one had a cap blow up and take some surface mount resisters with it, so I rebuilt the first one that went, swapped the logic chip over, put new caps in and it's been running fine for I think 3 years so far.

Forever.. ECU's very rarely die out.
You failed to take into consideration he has a 1g dsm. 1g's are notorious for bad ecus. The ALWAYS go out after time, if you don't know what you are talking about then don't post cause it's not helping anybody. Even 3000gt's suffer from ecu problems just for knowledge.

1g ecu's typically last around 10 years. Then the capacitors leak acid all over the board. Best to change them with the ones that don't leak before all that happens.

i had an ecu go out on me, it was a good thing i caught it before it did eat through everything, i got mine recapped and serviced for $200 plus a 5 year warranty ive been driven with it for about a year with no issues at all.

buying another used ECU is a waste, all you need to do is take that ecu somewhere to have it serviced, it might even be cheaper then buying a used ECU.

exactly dont waste your time on buying used ecu after another hoping your next one will last longer..chances of that happening are slim..your next ecu immediatly replace the caps with ones that dont leak and you should have an ecu that will last a lot longer then the ones youve had..
