I was out this weekend with Reggie and Fernando, and we encountered a gentleman on a motorcycle. The guy noticed the 3 modified mitsubishis, and decided that he wanted to play. I happened to have a half tank of 100 octane in the car, with the boost turned up to 16psi, and was more than happy to oblige. He was behind me and to the right, and when the light turned green, I hit it. He came around the car in front of him, and attempted to keep up with me. As we reached the next stoplight, which was at least a 1/4 mile away, and included a small turn, I was ahead of him by what seemed like about half a car. I think it was a Honda, although I am not sure. All I know is that the guy said it was 600 CC, and that "your car is fast man" wooo hoo I'm pumped, shootout here I come :D

I know sportbikes are quick, bro, but in this case, I got the guy. I dunno how skilled of a rider he was, but there could have been many factors at play
This guy was probably
1.) not comfortable riding the bike too quickly (he had no helmet on)
2.) possibly new to the bike
3.) we raced for probably more than a 1/4
4.) any driver/vehicle can have a bad day

i know myself im like 3for 7 against rockets i've 'beaten' a 600, 700, and 500 and i lost to a 900, 1000, and a slew of other crotchies..its all in the drivers skiill :)
either way to even beable to hang makes me happy :)

Thanks, but no thanks

Keith, I came out on Saturday night to Chinatown ... thanks for the directions and your cell number. I drove around lost for sometime, didn't see any fast cars, and left around 10:30 or so.

Went back to 4-corners only to watch a bunch of V8 guys trying their damndest NOt to race a quick Lexus (one that ran at GLD for the import event). Not bad watch guys talk for hours on end ...

OH MY GOD. I'm sorry, Vernon, I forgot to give you my cell #!!!!!!!!, I thought I forwarded you the e-mail. I'm really sorry about that :( You know, it is good you didn't make it, the races were busted on Saturday anyway. The only run I was able to get in was against that bike. Reggie and Fernando and I ended up driving around looking for a spot, but they were all infested with police. :( I basically wasted my cash filling up on half a tank of 100 octane unleaded. At least I got the bike.

Vernon

I was out there saturday with that SP lexus. I had my silver supra.
that was the biggest waste of time saturday night. To much trash talking and not enough racin'

I'm gonna be out there again this saturday night, maybe I will see ya there

Just for reference I own a 2001 R6. I'm teeling you now that anything this side of a single turbo supra is gonna lose up til about 140. My friend James ahs a 11 sec GSX. He runs 11's with his turbo as well not by beating the shit out of the car from the hole. Hes got a Frank stage 2 with a VPC, AFC, FMIC, 550cc inj., 3" ATR turbo back exaust, HKS cams and some other crap. Anyway, we raced from a 50 punch and I ripped his asshole open by about 10(I'm not bs'ing here) car lengths. I've also raced several BPU+++ Supras from various speeds and the best they could do was reel me in slowly above 120 MPH. I've also raced some NOS LS1's on the highway and they put up a good fight from the punch and they fall back. So anyone who says they can kill a 600cc bike on the highway with stock turbos is either lucky, or is lying. Bikes are not unbeatable, it just takes alot more than most people on this board have. PSI_BOOST- doesnt BS too much so I believe you I'm just saying you got lucky.

Keith/Supra Fly

Keith ... no problem. I enjoyed the drive out there by myself just the same ... It was my second time out in Chinatown, so just seeing the place was cool.

Supra Fly ... I got to 4-corners at around 1AM or so ... Sal and Eddie were there in their Supras, as well as Ethan. I be out again this Saturday, but this time I'm going to rest till midnight and then drive out.

2wdsux ... the only bike I ever raced was a old 1100 Suzuki Katana which I destroyed from a roll with my street setting (a mere 17PSI on a 20G). My friend back in South Africa that road races and occassionally drag races told me that my ETs are as quick, if not quicker, than the stock 600cc bikes that are now produced. That being said I'd say theres some disconnect here with what you say and what Keith says ... would be nice to run one of Chicago's quicker DSMs against your bike on the highway/byways ... my friends (Victor) 2G sure pulls like a steam engine from a roll.

I stand corrected

SAfrican,
I have no idea how fast you car is, but most modern 600cc sport bikes, in the hands of a capable rider, can click off the 1/4 mile in the rock botton 10's at 130 or so mph.
If this is indeed so, then I stand corrected. It was my understanding that the average modern 600cc runs somewhere in the mid to low 11s ...

FYI, a 20g will not make less than 18 psi. and I will race most any street DSM from a roll. As far as beating a 1100cc bike, many different factors come into play. Tuning, condition of the bike, mainly the rider. I'm telling you it takes a very modded out car to beat a 375 pound 105 hp bike in it's element. I don't live in Chicago, so I'm not going to challenge you. Find someone who owns a bike and KNOWS how to ride and race them. Hell I've beaten a R1 on my R6! It's all about the rider. Not saying impossible, just unlikely.

The reality, guys, is that dude was probably uncomfortable riding the bike any faster on a road that wasn't perfectly smooth.. Moreover, he probably never encountered a car quick enough that he had to punch his bike like that; and was perhaps new to that bike, or motorcycles in general, and wasn't comfortable riding fast at all. However, I am still pumped that my piddly little 14.3 was able to break off a 600cc bike, especially since it will probably never happen again

SAfrican

Vernon,
I came down there with Sal, we got kicked out of Mcdonalds on barringtong rd, so we headed down there. Sal and I parked far away. I was there till about 2:30 or so. I probably saw you.

we'll have to meet up next time. Come to think of it, did you have your dark colored car?? I think I saw the car.

by the way, 600's don't run 10's !!! give me someone besides a pro drive that clicked off anything lower than a 10.99 and I will consider myself re-educated. I had a 98 cbr f3 with pipe, K&n, jet, and managed low 11's no prob. but there is a barrier! Granted, I am a decent rider, not the best.
I will definitely agree with 2wdsux
It's all about the rider

I was there with the wife's car (Galant). See you Saturday for sure ... I'm going to head out to 4-corners at midnight. ProStockJohn spoke to the cops at McD's and they said that they will be out at McD for all of summer to break up the racing scene, hence the move to 4-corners.

The Rider

Yep, it is all up to the rider. I am a terrible rider (hey at least I admit it) I can only pull 12.4 on a 900RR. The launch is the hardest part, so if you can kill on the hwy then you kind of take the rider out of it. Unless he can't downshift quickly. Remember it isn't like pulling it out of 5th and puttin it into 2nd, you have to do 6th, 5th, 4th, 3rd, then your ready to mash it.

What a coincidence, I just raced a bike for the first time tonight, and was pretty pumped about it. I was gonna start another thread, but ...

It was a Suzuki SV650S, and after playing/racing a little in traffic, we pulled over and shot the shit for a while. He was impressed that a car was "keeping up with him so well", but probably hadn't had many encounters with actual fast cars, I guess. He said he hadn't taken it to the track, but was hoping for low 11's. This guy was really cool, and had been riding for 4 years he said, and had had the bike for 2-3 months. And of course, we went through the whole "Just a 4-cyl? wow!" thing :) We then went to a 1-2 mile stretch of isolated 6-lane road and raced at least 10-12 times. We raced from a roll and stop multiple times each, and he pulled on me each time (duh), but I was really happy with how I kept up. The thing that impressed me the most about the bike was how fuggin' well he could launch that thing - he beat me across an intersection 2-3 times. My clutch is slipping, but still ... I've never been beaten through 1st, he was hitting at least 1.7 60 foots while doing a damn wheelie!! :D Anyway, after that he'd pull HARD during my 2nd gear, and end with 12-15 carlengths on me by ~ 110 mph. I noticed he pulled a lot less as we got into higher speeds, I'm assuming due to drag. After I hit 4th, he was just walking (instead of running) away from me. He noticed it too.

Anyway, point being - that guy on the bike had to be taking it easy on you, PSI_BOOST, for whatever reason. He could have annihilated you, especially from a stop. At any rate, good post - earning the respect of bikes is cool as hell :)

PS - 2wdsux, who told you you can't run less than 18 psi on a 20G? That's entirely untrue. The only way that would happen is if the car had an 18 psi wastegate actuator, which I've never heard of.
