Clutch or possible broken drive axle?

I have a 96 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder GS, and something is wrong with either the clutch or the drive axle. When I release the clutch, the RPMs climb but I don't really go anywhere, the car can still move but barely. Also it doesn't stall out when I'm in gear and I release the clutch without pressing the gas, and I know thats not normal. A buddy of mine had the same problem with not stalling out when in gear with his Geo Metro. Turns out his drive axle came off. HELP!!!!

I would say your clutch is gone. Do you smell a really weird smell? If the car still move but barely, i would say your drive axel is still good. If you know how, check your clutch and see if its trashed(which i bet it will be.)

yea i agree with 92laserrsturbo on that one i had the same problem with the axle and my car wouldnt go anywere when i released the clutch. It has to be the clutch if it is still moving.

....you could just jack up the front end, and try rotating the wheels. If they both spin, your axles are okay.
