The ls1 cars are usually underrated with many putting down at least 300rwhp and some as high as 320 stock This is more like 350 to 375 engine hp.The lt1 were close to their engine ratings of like 275 and 285 for regular with like 305 for the ws6 lt1s.
I had 96 trans am ,97 with lots of mods and now the 99 with quite a few mods.
Again it would depend on what mods the dsm had.Off the line pretty easy to get the jump on the ls1 or lt1 if they are on street tires.I run nitto drag radials on my 96z28 and 99 trans am and can pull decent 60fts but an awd talon would have a bit of advantage off the lights.
To beat a ls1 98 up ws6 would take for sure some decent mods on a 14b. And talking more than just upping the boost to 15.
Anyway there are lots of variables in a street race..the faster car dont always win.Especially when racing manual cars. You can misshifts, hit the rev limiter, short shift..no shift down ,etc.
For example a 500 hp ls1 would be no problem to beat on the highway if the guy stays in say sixth gear. 5th and sixth are overdrive gears. And sixth if big time overdrive..good usually only for fuel mileage. But lots of guys don't have a clue how to drive their manual cars so on the street anything can and does happen
Last year at track I wasted a honda with turbo and spray and ran only a 14.3 at 96mph with only a 2.18 60ft.
He ran like a 16.5 at 85 with like a 2.85 60ft.I was on nittos he was on street tires. He blew his tires off and then had to back out of it .No way he could keep it straight on street tires.
He had decent power and might have run 12s but didn't matter. My auto 325 engine hp heavy 3900 pound raceweight vert beat him no problem.
Manual cars suck for racing.
