so ive got around 900 bucks. ive been looking online and im going to go with a bolt in mitsubishi turbo. now i cant decide between Big 16G Evo III 16G or the 18G. now everyone says the Evo III is the best but how come the Big 16G is more expensive on the majority of turbocharger selling places? i can easily afford each of the turbos but im not sure which ones. any help would be appreciated. i know the 18G will give me more power but will spool slower.

I've been thinking alot about the Evo III.

anyone who has the 18G installed let me know how it runs!@

Do you have everything you need to support a turbo that size?

If your going to spend 900 on a turbo, why not go with an internally gated 50 trim? They can be found for that price no problem.

Agreed, you'll always have more power if you want it and its a great streetable turbo. Im trying to trade my 60-1 for a 50 trim, drive my car everyday.

Dont waste your time...50 trim it

and next mod is DSMLink do it and never look back best shit i ever did :D

I got a FP ported 18G, no shaft play, no miles, it was a misship, and it was sold to me for $550, It feels smooth, it kicks hard, very streetable, and at 21 psi, 91 octane, I can pull very strong. If you have the mods and the tune, It can be a incredible turbo that just bolts right up.
however, I doubt that you will come across the turbo the same way I did,
so I would go for a 50 trim, or find a good used turbo, I am selling my S16G for $300, no shaft play, 4500 miles. then use your other money to save for dsmlink- thats the route I would go,
also, I wouldnt get a bigger turbo unless you already have the fuel, FMIC, tuning setup already prepared for the upgraded turbo.
do it right the first time, spend the appropraite money at the right time, and you will not be dissatisfied by the results.

PTE 50 trims are very reasonably priced these days, then again thats coming from someone who spent nearly 1500 on an FP :D
DOH! (hehe my 70 was a lot less than that)

see the problem is i have 900 to spend on turbo and injectors. i have the walbrp fuel pump i have the front mount. Forced Performance is selling 18G's at about 640 bucks which would be fine and then i could still get some 550cc or 650cc. i also have the SAFC installed so i could tune the injectors. i dont want anything too big right now. plus i dont wanna spend the money on a new exhaust manifold and a new 02 housing. so i guess ill be buying the Evo III 16G. so you guys think the EVO III is better than the Big 16G

i'd never put anything bigger than 650's with any of the 16g series on a "strip" car and on the street i'd stick with 550's. especially when he said he has an afc.

Didn't see he had an afc, my bad. I said 650's, because if he were to run 550's on an EVOIII, he would more than likely run into trouble if trying to push anything over 22psi or so.

please don't give out bad advice, if you'd like to explain that you don't have to if you want to live with the ill effects of not running a reg then do so and let the person make that choice. dont' tlel them you dont' have to have an afpr with an aftermarket pump because you do ESPECIALLY someone tuning 650's with an afc....

My "advice" is first hand experience. Is yours? My "bad advice" is your personal opinion. I practice what I preach. I have ran a stock FPR with an AFC for the last 4 years, running 660 Denso's and have NEVER had a problem. I ran multiple 11.9x's on the EvoIII with the 660's/afc, stock head/cams/block/fpr and many other stock items.

So, tell me how it's ok you can tell this person you HAVE to run an aftermarket AFPR, but it's bad advice for me to say not to run one? Anyone can take info off this site with a grain of salt. But don't tell me you need an afpr "ESPECIALLY someone tuning 650's with an afc...." because I know from personal experience that is not true. Can you say the same?

i only made one night of passes on my car before the timing belt snapped. 650's with a translator set at 0 12.4 after running 12.8 the pass before with the base pressure around 55psi when i dropped it to 40psi the next pass was a 12.4 the car was choking on timing with the 55psi (which btw was the pressure it ran at idle without a regulator, we did this to show a couple guys the effects of not running a reg). oh this was a full weight 2g on 16" allseasons and a slow 1.9 60'

i'd be willing to bet with an afpr your 11.9's would drop to 11.5's..just because it's fast doesn't mean you did it right.

do a search on what you'll run into, you will need an afpr with an aftermarket pump.

I don't need to do a search, most of the people that say you need an aftermarket afpr are the ones that bought one right off the bat. I do have one on my car now (don't have it running yet though :( ) I just personally think there are more important things to spend your money on than an aftermarket AFPR (like proper upkeep on maintenance, etc). Like I said I have never had a tuning/idle problem with the stocker, and I know many others that are in the same boat as me.
Hell, if I could drop .4 on the 1/4 with an AFPR, I'd poop my pants!
