So, me and my friend have almost got my Eclipse going, but have kindda hit a snag. We can, somewhat, start the car, but it shuts off after a few seconds. While it is on, it sounds like a lawnmower though. It's wierd. Looking at the cam censor, it looks like it's a bit torn up from the cam...I thought that that's what was making the lawnmower noise...The cam brushing up against the censor...I can't tell though. We pulled the starter, and took it to autozone, and it failed miserably, so I, obviously, need a new one. But, is that lawnmower noise just the censor, or is there something else to worry about?

We switched the head of my 2g to a 1g head. We also changed out the coolant system, because the water jacket of the 2g wouldn't fit on the 1g head. It wants to start up, but the head is gone...I feel like once we get the starter replaced, it will be all good...I'm just worried about the lawnmower noise it's putting out.

I'm pretty sure it's not. My uncle's 92 Toyota truck has an exhaust leak. It's not quite like that, however, different engine, different sound, I guess...It very well could be. I'll get the car started today, and I will pin point the sound. It could be the firing order. I did have it wrong, I went to autozone, and looked it up in the computer, and I had the order wrong :x

Meh, anyways, I'm outta here. Thanks.

I bet you are only running on 2 cylinders, that is why you are comparign it to a lawn mower, is sounds possibly that your ecu might need some caps. I had the same problem with my 1st dsm, started than it would run on 2 cylinders that the ecu would shut the fuel pump off, see if you can find one to temorarly use and see if it helps, i would bet that might be your problem.

When my CAS was failing, it would only fire two of the cylinders. Sounded a lot like what you're describing... would start, run for a bit, then die. Had to keep trying and pray that the other two cylinders would 'catch', as when they did it ran just fine.

If you have a friend with an identical CAS, try switching them out. Fixed the problem instantly when I borrowed a friend's CAS.

Well, the 1G head I installed was actually from a Talon. The cams, bearings, censors...All of that stuff is from my 2G. All I changed was the head itself with the valves still inside, and the water jacket. I took in my starter yesterday to have it tested, and it failed miserably, and said to replace it. I didn't have enough money last night, so I couldn't buy it, but I can't imagine the starter making that noise when it starts up, and dies...Any ideas? Anyone local willing to offer some help? Anything is something, thanks.

*EDIT*

Oh, and as for the CAS, we fabbed up a bracket to hold it in place, but looking at it, it looks like it was ripped up a little bit...If I pulled the 1G CAS, would I have to splice it in, or rewire the whole thing? Thanks!
