I bought a transmission to replace the one in my 95 awd turbo talon. I ordered this transmission from a salvage yard on the phone and they said they had one. when the transmission arrived i noticed the torque convertor was a different size then what was originally in the car. So i used the old torque convertor when i tried to install the trans. Now it seems like that one doesn't sit far enough back. When i tried the smaller convertor it sat too far back and i couldn't bolt up the torque convertor. Is there minor differences in the 95 awd turbo eclipse and the awd turbo talon that is preventing this from going together nicely?

I'm not positive but...

When I was looking for a filter for my car I had a #$@! of a time trying to find one. (DONT QUOTE ME..NOT SURE AT ALL...) but...I think there might be 2 trannys for that car. I have a early 95 ...one of the first ones (rear vented disc brakes) .. but i think i have a 94 tranny. Give the place a call and see if they can tell you when the car was made...perhaps you need a different flex plate... ???? do the tranny model #'s match???

hope this help outs in someway...

I just thought about this but the place i ordered the trans from is called japanese engines inc.... any chance that a jdm trans and torque convertor could be different from the one that came in the car.... all the trans mounting points line up exactly

According to the above link the trans for the talon and the eclipse are the same id numbers... i will have to check that when i'm at the shop tomorrow....

They're the same.
What you can do is find the VIN# on the tranny from the junkyard and look it up on CarFax to make sure they pulled the right one.
But I guess if it says W4A33 it still should work.
I'd check anyway =P

How much did you pay for it anyway? Just curious. (mine was $790)

Well i deffinetly beat the $790 mark... mine was $350 minus but came with no transfer case.... And well i will take a look on the tranny next time it is down and see if i can find the vin number but i do not have carfax so we will see.

heh, mine didn't come with a t-case either...
Supposedly only had like 32,000 miles on it though.

You can still look up the VIN on carfax and it will tell you the year/make/model of the car it came from.

Well i went back to the shop and i took the transmission back down and decided to start over with exactly what was sent to me from this company.... I got it back up in the car and it bolts together very nicely and i realized that the torque convertor would slide towards the motor just enough to make it fit. BUT the bolt holes in the flex plate on my car and the torque convertor for this eclipse are off. Is it possible that the flex plates on eclipses and talons may be a bit different?

well that sucks.
There are no differences except the exterior/interior logos & styling.
An Eclipse & Talon of the same year are otherwise 100% identical mechanically.

Did you look at the VIN# while you had it down?

no i did not... i totally spaced it out... but what i am going to do is give these guys a call and demand either they tell me what is going on or they send money back and someone out to get their trans... i will have it down again tonight and see what the vin say... where is it usually located on the trans?

Well after spending hours on the phone with this place trying to understand these "foreign individuals" they decided that they were going to send me the flywheel/flexplate that came from the motor this trans came from... If that does not work they said they would send their carrier to come pick it up and refund my purchase... so we will know in about 3-4 days now whats goin on.
