My gf and I bought her a car last August which just so happened to be a 1994 Eclipse auto with the 4G37. It has been a kick ass car and is in great shape. The only problem that we have with it is that the whole car shakes at idle. It barely does it with no accessories on and in neutral or in drive, but once you turn on an accessory the car starts to vibrate. It really shakes with the AC on. You don't notice it at all while you are driving, but when the RPMs drop to idle it starts to shake again. So basically once a load is put on the motor it shakes. She told me the other day if the AC is on and she makes a hard turn the car would shut off. I am think it has something electrical going on like the alternator isn't putting out enough of a charge. Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks.

My mechanic friends suggested the same thing. It has occured to me, but why would it make the car shut off? Thats my only reason for thinking that it isn't a mount.

It only takes a sec to check them and they do go bad (break)... My DSM had 2 broken motor mounts when I got it. :)

well, I'd say the Idle Speed Control Motor is probably dead. I'm still on stock motor mounts (I've got a 5 speed so there's the difference) but my car doesn't suffer like that right now. A few years ago, I had the same problem whenever I tried to use my A/C and it eventually got into idle surge. I pulled a $15 buck ISC out of a junkyard and slapped it on and problem solved. Maybe that's the problem.

another thing that might be it, its the water/coolant temp sensor... my car used to shake bad on start up, replaced the sensor and its smooth as butter now...

Hate to ask such a dumb question but, when is the last time you changed your fuel filter? Always check the basic stuff.

Sweet deal, her coolant temperature does seem to bounce around a lot. Even with a new thermostat and a coolant flush, it still seems to be very random. Her gauge fluctuates like, it will go up to 3/4 then instantly drop to normal, then down a little then a little past normal then to normal. This all within like 15 seconds. Its weird, its just changes and moves around on its own. A lot of times it will stay normal, then just move around for a while ever so slightly.
