so i'm trying to get my drivers side fender off when i noticed that i too have to take off the front bumper, and the other side fender pretty much all at once. i even check in the haynes manual, it says the same thing. (although not really useful for finding the simplest way to get it all off, being that i own a 92, and the book shows the 90-91 body style)

so i go at it, and i'm breaking bolts all over the damn place, hell, on the front bumper, where its attatched to another black piece of plastic (like 10 or so damn bolts on the bottom) i broke ALL BUT 2!!!! two for christ sake!!!!

is there an easier way to get this whole front assembly off? and is there anything i can do to help to not break so many damn bolts? i'm goin easy on these things and its like they're made out of wood. i hope i dont have to grin and bear it and buy a whole lot more bolts and buy a tap set :(

It's a DSM, so of course it won't be simple. You have to take the front bumper off before you can remove the fender, but you have to remove the fender before you can remove the bumper. That's not actually the case, but it feels that way at times. Most likely you'll have to replace most of those bolts, but you can try spraying some  my mind is drawing a blank on the name  it's like WD-40, but more powerful.

for those little plastic bastards... take a pair of dikes (wire cutters) and a screww driver. use the dikes as a wedge from boath sides under the clip. remove the screwin the middle. use the wire cutters to pry out the whole assemble. easy.

hey gie if your going to be a dsm'r your beture get danm good, quick; at punching, drilling, and tapping new threads. go get yourself the most complete metric tap and die kit you can find. now remember these are tools u will use the rest of your life.

a good tap and die set could save you lots of money,
also heli-coil sets are a good idea also

yuh when i was parting out the red car, i took apart all the body.. those plastic ones.. omg.. i had a flathead screw driver and plyers.. they still were breaking left and right..

or you get the fun bolt that is rusted in there...

Am I the only person that has had both of my fenders off and have never had my front bumper cover off?

lol, We are talking 1G's right?

Although I did successfully break every one of the bolts that secures the fenders at the very bottom of the car behind the front wheels.

also, i'm finding it a huge pain in the ass to get these last two bolts, theyre the ones that hold the fenders to the car, but they're inside the fenders. i'm about ready to take a damn air chisel to both of the fenders and cut them off. nothing should be this much of a pain in the ass.

also for the plastic phillips screws things, ford has ones like that but they just pop out, and theres no screw in the middle. think i might find some of those and just replace the shitty mitsu ones w/ ford ones.

hmm, so i checked out tap sets, pretty expensive. i'm thinkin about sayin fuck it, retapping all of the threads and putting in standard size 1/4 in wide bolts. with 1/2 of the bolts broke, and i'm not really feelin comfortable putting the old ones back in, and i dont know where any place around here that sells metric bolts.

Hell yea, those fenders are tricky bastards, especially when you dont have the proper tools sitting next to you, i.e, not a long enough extension bar...GRrr, i went to remove mine but half way of breaking pretty much every damn bolt in there i just said f*ck it before i break everything else...16 year old rusted bolts blow nuts!
