fyi.. The stock gas tank, lines, fill neck, filter weigh around 45#. The trunk floor with the two large tank brackets weighs about 10lbs. Im gonna cut some more non structural pieces behind the rear subframe before I rivet the aluminum floor in.

I thought of some other areas to loose some weight. If you don't drive at night time you could ditch the pop up lights. One DSMer recorded a 26lb weight savings from removing everything. Getting rid of the hood latch and installing pins. Getting rid of your ABS system if you have it. Getting rid of the sound deadening material. When I bought my car someone had already started the job. I was surprised at what the sack weighed when I was done doing the rest. While I was removing the sound deadening material I also started simplifying the wiring running all over the car. Since you've gotten rid of a lot of stuff I'm sure there's extra wiring you could track down and get rid of. Someone already mentioned a light weight seat and battery. Not cheap, but light weight wheels and tires will get you gains in several areas. Next time you change your clutch get a light weight flywheel. Again, not cheap but will help in several ways. I had my balance shafts removed at the last timing belt change and I was surprised at the response I got from the engine. Manual steering and cruise control delete are a couple of other ways to simplify the engine bay and loose some weight. I hope that helps some. I wish my DSM was just for fun, but it has to get me around too. Good luck reaching your goal! I'm interested to see how it goes.
I think you mean just ditch the motors?

I'm not understanding your question from my quote. If you're talking about the headlights I wasn't clear the first time. There was a member that took out his entire headlight assembly and replaced it with a very nice set of driving lights that shined through the front lenses. I'm not sure what night driving would be like, but the pop ups aren't known for their brightness either. The member I'm talking about is ArcticTSi if I'm not mistaken. You could send him an e-mail/pm to ask him about what the light out put is like. He also made a ram-air setup with his intake. I hope that clears things up.

I also switched to manual steering since I posted and I love it. Cleans up under the hood, one less thing to leak, one less belt, and I love the feedback I get. It does take more effort in parking lots, but other than that its not bad.

I'd just utilize the stock windshield fluid bottle..I think it'd look alot cooler to use a 1gal cell but in the end you're still paying for the cell and if you're like me you don't use your wiper fluid anymore so why not..Plus when it runs low you have a stock indicator light installed already.. :)
Because the 1 gallon fuel cell is located in the engine bay, is internally filled with foam, is extremely easy to fill, and has -an fittings on it already. The system I have is pricey enough that the fuel cell seriously is just icing on the cake. If I were doing the injection system to be as cheap as possible then I wouldn't do it the way I'm doing it.

Any pictures of your setup?..What kit are you running?..I've been using a aquamist 1s kit for two and a half years now and I love it..

Fuel system is pretty much complete at this point. Saved around 40lbs. I wouldnt suggest cutting the rear floor to save weight. I saved maybe 2 lbs, definately not worth the time. I also would absolutely not suggest the 1 gallon fuel cell in anything that sees street use. Just getting my car up to temp with cams, injectors.. no isc/fiav etc.. uses up alot of fuel. On a street car I would go no less then 5 gallons. Anyway, onto a few pics..

Back from the dead!

Well i was along searching the forums for some tips...and i came across this thread, this is probley one of the most valueable threads in terms of weight reduction ive found so far....Today i decided to strip my rear interior of the laser, some parts removed are spare tire, jack, plastic panels, seat belt harnesses and rear seats. This car is no longer my daily driver...and i have alot of plans for it...My final goal is an 11 second FWD car Evo 3 16G powered. Let me know how I did...and any other improvements that I can do. I have Mickey Thompson ET Drag slicks on lightweight rims, as rotational mass plays a huge roll in acceleration. Im pretty happy so far, i can say I took a good 100lbs of weight out the car so far and im sure there will be more to come.

Well Ive wanted to keep the passanger seat so i can take family and friends and whatnot down the 1320 as most of them still dont know anything about "4 cylinders" cept the fact they believe there POS's. Ignorance is bliss.

^ You need really good fans if you do that. I just added a fan shroud and 2 fans to my scirroco rad to get the temps down.

On a sidenote, to show that weight reduction works, I just put my 2600lb awd auto well into the tens with around 400whp.:D Shooting for better times when I get back to the track.
