Hey where did you guys find the barb on the evo 3 right next to the j-pipe? I need that barb to run proper boost apparently. What is the measurement of the barb? 1/16th? I tryed a 1/8th barb and it would not fit.

sorry for digging up an older thread, but I searched and couldn't find what I was looking for, anwyway, what's psi is the maxium efficiency for an evo3 16g? also I have no Idea how to read a compressor map

I ran a disappointing best of 12.70@106. The car has much more in it. My 12.70 was a bad 1.8 60' and a poor r/t. In eliminations I chased down a Mustang and had to coast and brake at the end to a 12.8@94.

IMO these are the best turbos for these cars. As long as you know what you are doing they are capable of 11's and are very streetable and work well with stock internals.

Just make sure you buy a real one, not some POS from SS Autochrom.

Good Luck!

This has been a very informative thread. I am installing an E316G in my 97 while doing a 6 bolt swap. My question is will 550s be enough? I am not gonna be draggin it. It is hopefully gonna see some time at Limerock as well as being my daily driver. I have the 550s, ported ev03 o2 housing, ported 2g manifold, 255 fp, and a UEGO for tuning. Still hunting for the SAFC2 to properly tune it.

Hey Claw, where did you get you car dyno tuned? I live on Long Island and was curious.

550's will work but they are not enough to get the full potential from the turbo. I run 650s which are perfect.

Do you have an AFPR to run that 255?

Also, if you don't have a logger and SAFC I would not install the injectors. The car would just run real rich.

I have the logger and the AFC is on my list. and I am pretty the the AFPR shouldn't be necessary.

I know all the reason's why most of you guys hate when poeple post like this, but im looking for educated opinions, to see if they match up with mine

My setup
Ported and Clipped Evo III
Ported 2g Manifold
2g Pistons
Eagle Rods
264/264
SBR Stage III Head
Double Springs
Ti Retainers
SS valves
Ported Intake Mani
ACT 2600
2g MAF
Innovative LM1 wideband
Walbro 255
880cc Injectors
Aeromotive FPR
Custom Chip
3" Mandlrel Bend No Cat Exhaust
38x3.5x13 FMIC

Im shootin to push her to 27psi

In your opinion, you think I'll be in 11's? That's my current goal.

hoomoooo, well if I hit 12.38 on standard EVOIII @ 19psi with a stock 7bolt and supporting mods, you better hit some looowwww ass 12s to 11s, Sean, Im sure youll hit 11s... just hope that tranny will hold

^^ I'd say on that setup tune it for 20-22psi on pump gas and rev it to atleast 7,500-8,000rpms and let the upgraded springs and cams do their thing, but that's just me :) . I would figure out where you need to shift with the better flowing head and hardware after you get a comfortable street tune. I really think your shift point will make the most difference in your newer setup :burnout: .

If you wan't to run anything above 23psi or so, get some 650's. The 550's will run out of steam around that number. I was running mine at 27-28psi with 780's and a Keydiver chip to compensate. You won't be happy until you get it cranked up into the upper 20's for sure. By the way, YOU NEED AN AFPR, no question about it. The car is going to run absolute pig rich at idle with just the 550's let alone jumping to 650's. Do things right.

Someone sell theres please!! Ha...Im too cheap to buy a new one, and I have every supporting mod to run one and tune with one...This 14b is running out of steam, and I hate hanging out with a group of dsm's and knowing I am the only one not running a 16g....That sucked...

My friend ran his up to 25+psi on 110 leaded and ARP/Cosmetic....This turbo can handle it, but I wouldnt tell somene else to try backing their mbc all the way in also unless they for sure had a MLS Headgasket and some nice ARP's to prevent the head lifting at that kinda boost....

Damn you all E3B16g people...I wanna be a part of the club! Gimme

Cmon man, I ran 28lbs on a stock HG and bolts for quite some time with the EVO16G. Screw backing it off if you have the proper supporting mods.

Ya...Rippin is the factory freak...For everyone else that doesnt want to blow a headgasket before they have to, keep the boost below 25....
