You can always drill a new hole. Just be careful that you don't puncture your gas tank. Some idiot was grounding some audio stuff in a CRX I used to own, and drilled into the gas tank. I had to drop the tank to fix his stupidity.
 
It's best to keep ALL wiring to the shortest length possible.

As far as a good ground spot, use a nut/bolt/washer combo and attach through the floor area (around muffler is safest). Self tapping screws through the thin floor metal is a VERY bad idea.

^^ There it is. Get rid of the paint in this area too. I've ran 0 gauge wire to this bolt then to a distribution block...works great.
 
i Used the hole for the spare tire. It worked great.
