hi i'm posting this for a friend. his 91 tsi AWD has 660cc injectors, Mutt Level 1, Walbro 255, 3" down pipe w/02 elim, 2.5 catback, and some other mods. The question is what are the optimum hi/lo settings on the SAFC with these mods? we checked Road Race but came up w/nothing.

Also, he has a Turbo XS type H blowoff valve venting to the atmosphere, and still has the hole in the intake pipe (MAF to Turbo) open. Whenever he covers the hole up, the car only boosts to 3000rpm then jerks and shuts down as though it were hitting fuel cut. when its open, and the car is under heavy acceleration, the cars rpms will drop to 0 and the car will shut down completely during a shift. Anyone know what would be causing these problems? perhaps putting the stock BOV would fix the situation? Thanks for the replies, Bogdan.

you have to plug that hole in. usually the car won't even start with the whole opened. and if it does, teh turbo is actually pulling in more air than what the MAS has picked up. the MAS will then only deliever fuel for what it has read and not accomadate for the extra air that the turbo has sucked up thru that hole. i say just plug that hole up and you should be ok but you will probably still see some bad idling and rich conditions whenever you let off the throttle. this wil cause the rpm's to drop also and there is often lag when you vent to the atmosphere

thanks, but the thing is he already covered the hole while venting to the atmos. and the car would only boost until 3000 then shut down like it hit major fuel cut. it would stumble, and lose power. wouold re-routing back into the intake using the stock BOV help this?

Ukr,

I had the same exact problem with my TurboXS Type H34 Blow off Valve. I would take off, and all the sudden she would hit like a fuel cut symptom. The whole car would just jerk and scare the shit out of me. They give you those little washers to adjust it but I tried 1, 2, 3, 4, etc... Still didn't help me at all. I would still hit a cut. The stock BOV would work better. Then I figured out the problem. The BOV was opening too prematurely. I used a scale to see how much preload the spring was. It was less than the cheap plastic stock one. So what I did was take about 5 or 6 of the washers along with a thick piece of round aluminum and stick it in there to give it more spring preload. It worked! I talked to Mark at TurboXS to see if maybe it was the wrong spring and he said no. He sent me a stiffer one but I never even put it in yet since my method worked. My guess is that you have the same exact problem. Let me know.

Cool OneFast97GST, thats what i thought now i can be sure. it did seem like the air was being released prematurely, so i'll try the washers, and if that doesn't work the stock one's going back on. Thx for your help.

Should i try posting the Safc ? in the advanced tech forum?

I can't remember how many washers came with it, but stick them all in. Don't get disgusted if that doesn't work because it didn't for me. For a test I used a larger size socket and put that in there and some washers. Then I used a human scale to see how many lbs. it took before it started to open. I think my is now at about 19lbs. I don't know if that has anything to do with or similar to lbs of boost because Mark was telling me something about differential between the air in the pipe and the vacuum line on top. He lost me there. I'm almost sure this is your problem. The first time I put mine on and i hit that "cut" I thought I blew it up or something. It's digusting when you put something new on and right away it's worse than before. Let me know.
