There is a dowel kit out there that supposedly helps crankwalk on the 7 bolt.I had 7 bolt in my 97 with 60,000 miles on it. I think it was original engine and don't seem to have any crankwalk. It died shortly after I bought the car though think from some idiot crushing the oil pan during service and think oil starvation did it in. Symtoms were loud knocking, oil smoking big time.
I replaced it with my 2.4 build.Feel pretty safe with the 2.4 6 bolt.

Tony I couldn't disagree with you more on the 7 bolt thing.
I don't think you could waste your money faster on a DSM
than building a 7 bolt. I've seen 6 bolts "go" but almost all
have been stock and pushed until they got tired and broke,
or simply some dumb fuck put it together all wrong.
(vague referance to quoted point) I've watched 7 bolts
come apart with little to no warning... or reason.
I would never build a 7 bolt 4g63. Never.

However, if you so choose to do so... there is only one place
I would let do it. And that's overbore. JAM is the other option.
But a seriously pricey one. I would call overbore and have Mark
give you the run down on what he's made a name for himself doing.
Making 7 bolts hold up like a 6 bolt.
Since you were mentioning Mark in a later post.............You do know that Mark built my awesome 7bolt, right?? I tried to blow it up already and I can't. No problems with the 7bolt here man. I have a buddy that had 3 walked 6bolts in his garage at once. ;)

I know all about Mark's midas touch concerning 7 bolt engines.
And you are not the only one running an overbore engine that's bullet proof.
Which is why I recommend him to anyone doing a 7 bolt.
When it comes to machine work he's knows wtf he's doing.
On the 6 bolt thing... please also understand premature thrust bearing wear and c/w are different things, and are often confused. even tho they have different causes. I have a hard time believing a guy actually "walked" 3 6 bolts when I've yet to see more than one actually c/walk in 8 years. And atleast 50 motors I've been in and pulled.

I have watched countless 7 bolts come apart like a prom dress.
So for me, its just a DSM no no.
