Is this Rod Knock? Lifter Or...? (video inside)

So, I just finally installed my new turbo, manifold, intercooler and so much other shit.

I went outside and took it for a spin to tune the car. While I was driving it started to jerk in unison as I drove it uphill. Then all the sudden it started to make this ticking sound that is pretty loud. It's not lifter tick. I know for sure what that sounds like.

I just want some advice on what this sounds like? Timing belt problem..? Perhaps I broke a rod... bent one or messed up a bearing.

I don't think i could have broke a rod though because my boost was only going up to like 5lbs at most... that's maxed. It was usually like 2-3lbs of boost to be safe. I cranked it way down.

So, tell me what you guys think it is. Thanks alot for the help.

Don't pay attention to the exhaust leak.. I know all about that. It's rattle/ticking sound I am after.

That's exactly what I thought too. I've never actually heard it in real life but I've seen a few videos of it.



I'm still wondering what the hell this noise is. :confused:

I just replaced so much shit on this car. I got my new racing radiator in today and put that on.. took it out to tune and then all the sudden it starts making this shitty noise.

dude that shit made me dizzy as fuck watching that video....lol, That sounds horrible though. Can you hear it comming from any where inparticular? ie. louder in one place than anywhere else

Edit- Didnt sombody recently make a thread where they just installed a used t-25 and it was making a horrible noise like this....sounds similar.

It sounds like it's coming from the head/valve cover. That's the area it's coming from basically. When I rev the car up the ticking noise rattles faster as well.

And it's not my lifters.. cause I use to have lifter tick but not after I changed the kinda oil I used.

I couldnt tell you, sounds like head work or even valves. Just as long as it's not the bottom end it shouldnt cost that much to fix. If you dont know much about head work take it to a friend or tech that does, he will probably know right off bat.

My best friend who has taught me alot of shit about this car is away in boot camp. Not to be back in over 3 months and counting.

It looks like I'm screwed. :(


I don't want any mechanic to touch this car unless they are a dsmer. I know some shit about this dsm.. but I'm still just a beginner in alot of ways. Least that's how I see myself.

I won't be driving this car for quite a while. : /

Unless K-Man want's to come over and help me out.

:p The kid who owned this car before me did all the show work on it basically.

I guess it is still a show car though.... That's until I got my hands on it.

You'll let my poor dsm sit in the garage again!!?

It was in the garage all winter long as I did my first upgrades to it.

What do you like K-man.. beer... money you name it. I'm down to the last wire with the shit I've went through trying to get this car to work. I only live down here in lower burrell. :D

Then for sure the pics that I have of that 2g with the wing are your car before you owned it. He went to Penn Ken when I was there just can't remember his name.

Penn State sticker was on the back.. I took that off with a razor knife.

Well I only didn't think that car was mine because the kid lied to me then.

My buddy broke my lug nut tool a long time ago and I couldn't for the life of me find that unique piece. So, I called up that kid and asked where he got the lug nuts and he told me the guy who had the car before him put those motegi rims on it.

The pictures you have don't show those rims so I thought it wasn't my car.

But since you said you saw the kid going to pen ken then yeah... It's most likely his car and his dumb ass didn't remember where he got the lug nut set from.

Figures... I found the lug nut key.. and the kid I bought the car from was a strange piece of work. He was to scared to drive the car fast and didn't do one thing to the engine of that car. Just straight up body work and that's it.


Almost forgot... he had a muffler that he supposively said it would give me mad horsepower. More like mad-noise... I took his fart can and sold it.

The guy that I know owned it put all that crap on it, it started out as a stock Talon in the fall and then turned into that thing by spring. Maybe it's had more owners, those pics are at least 6 years old.

I see... Well the kid told me he did all the body work and shit on it. I don't know if that's true.

Penn State sticker and the pictures of the blue color on the body kit.. and the blue color I find when I look underneath it leaves me to believe it is that car.

I like pretty much everything he did to the car.. except that wing. Looks like it's about to take off into the sky with that fucken thing on it.

I did take the valve cover off.. I snooped around but I don't exactly know what to look for in terms of what could be causing the rattle sound.

I looked around everything seemed fine don't quote me though I've haven't done to much engine work at all.

Considering I live 20min from you that's a possibility. Won't be till next week tho, my slow ass car is going in for the cage tomorrow and 4" exhaust, then i'm gone for the weekend for work.

I've seen your car... and the vids you posted. How the hell can you say that thing is slow!! I happen to think it sounds like a beast.

And if your car is slow mine must be retarded.

You have a name on aol or yahoo..? I can't Pm you cause your damn box is full.
