This is the only silly thing keeping me from taking her for her first drive!

I have ALL new pulleys, new belt, new auto tensioner. I am using the correct tensioner arm, and i have the tensioner and the auto tensioner perfect VIA the VFAQ.

It stays in time and runs fine but the belt keeps walking towards the tranny.

I cant figure it out? The auto tensioner is set into the groove on the tensioner arm and everything.

The only thing i can think of is that when i tighten down the tensioner arm, it has a little bit of play in it (its not really tight against the motor mount extension that it swivels on)

Would that cause this, even though my auto tensioner is properly seated on the arm?

will it walk until its off? mine hangs over the tranny side of the cam probably just over 1/32 of an inch. It leaves about 3/16 of cam showing on the drive side. It has been like this for the past 30,000 miles (since i have owned the car). I have also replaced the T-belt and it moved right to that spot.

Well its a brand new built 6 bolt, Jackson auto machine stage 1 head, all new cams, all new front case, everything is brand new.

The car the main block itself came out of did not do this, but its all new everything so i cant really say that it did or did not do this before install.

And the tensioner pulley itself is on properly, the timing belt is up against the lip but still the lip only keeps the belt a hair OFF the cam gear, as seen in the pics.

Ok, im just a wee bit paranoid because this is a completely built 6 bolt, head block SS ferrara valves Wiseco pistons eagle rods yadda yadda yadda.

I think i could put a small washer behind the tensioner pulley to bring it out towards the drivers side more, because for some reason the tensioner pulley sits a little further inwards than the idler bearing.

Also, i heard a squeaking coming from the timing belt side when i revved the engine, so i took it apart. But I am pretty sure that that was due to an overtightened belt (my gap between the hydraulic tensioner and tensioner arm was way too much). Its all set now

Im not sure if it was due to the 6 bolt swap, but when you use the 1g tensioner arm on the 2g motor mount, theres a bit of "wobble" in the arm due to the difference in overall circumference of the 1g arm and the 2g arm where they mount on the motor mount.

I think that wobble allows the 1g hydro tensioner to properly align in the 1g tensioner arm's indentation, but throws off the angle of the tensioner bearing. Thats the best idea i can think of.

Either way, the small washer between the pulley and the tensioner arm definetly worked.

Thanks so much guys !
