Howdy ya'll. My mechanic just finished replacing my headgasket and putting on my new head. Compression is 115-125 across. welllll. the car was idleing at like 2100. so we checked for vacume leaks and turned the cam sensor almost all the way back now we got it to stay at around 1200 which is still high. and the biss screw is all the way in. When driving the car the turbo spoools up till like 14 pounds but the car isn't going anywhere, like somthing is holding it back. Now when we turn the cam sensor up (idle goes up to around 2200) the car boosts nice. So we tried unplugging the Idle control sensor when the car is running and nothing happens, no sputter no nothing (is that normal)? Any help would be awesome.
Thanks.

Stop using the cam angle sensor to adjust idle. When you move the cam angle sensor it changes the timing. Which is why the performance drops. Get a timing light and set it right and your performance should be there.

Check your isc.

what is the isc? we tried a timing light, but i guess because of the fast idle timeing is ahead?? where it's where its suppose to be idle is around 2.2k . If the idle contrl sensor was working, would the car do anything when i unplug its running, cause when i do , nothing happens?

Triple check your timing marks on the cams and crank. I have a feeling that t belt wasnt set properly.

Also do a boost leak test the right way with a pressure tester hooked up the the turbo inlet.

Im scared of your mechanic.....

Okay so i replaced the ISC with a unit i got from someone for $40. And it fixed 90% of the idle surge. So i've been driving the car for about 200 miles. and have been popping the hood and listening to it for any noises. It has always made a tick, nothing that sounded bad. But today it developed a little knock. i didn't notice until someone was walking infront of my car and said they heard a knock. So i found that it's coming from the back of the valve cover by the injectors, and underneath the car i can hear it as well. The car runs good, and idles goood with a bit of surge around 1k. The car also drives good, and boosts well to. But when i get to around 5k rpm its like the car won't go anymore, i never tried to push it past there because i just got it back. The stock boost gauge reads 14+, i have no boost controller. I have new plug wires but didn't get a chance to pick up plugs yet, or clean the throttle body. But the plugs in the car and split fire?? i never heard of it?
i have a rebuilt head, new belts , new water pump, and timing belt.
