Hello everyone,
I've been using the information on this site since I bought my car a year ago and now I'm close to finishing my beast of a car but there are just a few things that need buttoned up before I tune it. Right now I have the safc II disconnected and no mbc. I've tried to not open up anything that I didn't have to because the car was built by a shop before I bought it. Right now I want to start tuning it but my car is running very lean at idle.
I know the narrowband isn't very accurate but at idle my a/f gauge isn't even lighting up on the lean side unless I blip the throttle. I have a stage 3 chip and knock gauge in stock boost gauge loc. so when I push the car I get knock at like 5.5k so I just shut it down. I'm doing a boost leak test again today. I have 18lbs of vac at idle. Idles solid at 900.
The reason why this is bothering me is because my chip is for a hacked mas (lower and sides removed) and 880's but my car is so lean instead of being rich. I haven't hacked the mas yet (want to get car tip top first) and I know the chip is on the safe side so I should be running pretty rich without the safc right? I'm gonna take pictures and log some runs now that my egt bung is retapped (big exhaust leak).

Are you using a wideband?I was in the same boat as you and trust me man you need a wideband and a logger. As for wtf a stage 3 chip is go to dsmchips.com and look under stage three chips. My problem was running too rich, well it probably still is( haven't gotten another turbo yet).Get in on the ngk wideband group buy and then try messing with the safc.

I'm using a logger, safc II, and a stage 3 chip to compensate for my big injectors. I figured I could run 11's with an scm61 and supporting mods bc that's what everyone else is doing and more with the same/similar parts. I did find out my problem after I logged a run. It seems that the injectors that were on the car (pte 880s) were removed before I bought it and replaced with much smaller ones. Obviously the seller was more of a crook than I thought. On my run at 5.5k and approx 1200 hz my injectors were at 70% duty cylce. My wastegate has a 12 psi spring in it. At that point my stock boost gauge went crazy meaning lots of knock so I shut it down. Now I have to search for some 880s.

Ohhhhh it's making sense now, 12psi on a 60 trim equates to 11s. Im getting rid of my puny PTE 50, I would rather run 12psi than 27psi and get the same results. Good find!

Gotta find that stage 3 chip first though!

I had a custom Eprom chip set for all of my settings on my old setup..

I threw it in with the SAFC zero'd out and my AEM UEGO was reading WAAY Too lean at WOT..

Had to play around with my safc a lot to get it set right

Haha, I like people who skip to the bottom (and don't know what they're talking about). I have a scm61 > 60 trim>50 trim. As I said before I unhooked my mbc and safc while I'm getting all the kinks out of my car. Everything is done to this point but my lean idle and now I know why. He took out the big injectors for another car and put in stockers off one of his parts cars. When I get 880s and can hook my mbc and safc II back up with a peace of mind I'll be ready for 11's. How many times have you seen the light at the end of the tunnel then realized it's farther than you thought. It's the story for a lot of projects on the board.

Get a Wide-Band , and I'll bet you find that with that turbo @ 12 psi + stock injectors = A SERIOUSLY-LEAN situation!!! I'm surprised you haven't hit fuel-cut? I'd say much over 5500, and you will... Too much turbo even at 12 psi (If you've ever even made it to 12 psi?) for stock injectors. What does it have for a Fuel Pump? AFPR ? A pressure increase would help, but not cure your problem. Park it till you get larger injectors, a way to control them (DSM-LINK not SAFC II, it can't compensate for 880's), and a way to monitor it all.

um, read on how the stock o2 sensor system works. I would sell what you have, buy dsmlink and a wideband and be done with it. its really, really, easy.

Wait, so you have been running the car on a chip tuned for 880s, with the 450s? Get those injectors off him as soon as you can if that is the case. If you are running stock fuel with that setup, no wonder you are hitting fuel cut lol. As for my previous comment, bad day yesterday and yeah you were actually right, I was reading bottom to top. I had no clue they referred to keydiver chips in stages.
